Mangrum had a phenomenal season. This running back out of Sand Creek measures in at 5’10 185-pounds. He had 174 carries for 2001 yards, averaging 11.5 yards per carry for 30 touchdowns, and 11 receptions for 117 yards with 2 touchdowns. Mangrum has very good athletic ability due to elite change of direction, very good speed, acceleration, and balance. He has elite vision. Very good inside and outside running. If a hole is covered, he’ll use his controlled jump cuts to pivot and find an open route. Mangrum is an elusive bruiser, mixing speed and power. He runs through defenders effortlessly, or glides through the field like an ice skater. He’s smooth on his feet, consistently making defenders miss. Defenses also must be aware of his receiving ability. But wait, Mangrum also has very good pass protection. He gets low and uses his very good strength to block extra defenders. He allows his QB to get extra time in the pocket and find the open man downfield. I love this kid’s film, and I’m surprised colleges haven’t found him yet. They will in due time.

Mangrum has been nearly unstoppable this season, leading all of 4A with 1,579 rushing yards on just 124 carries. His 24 rushing touchdowns are a testament to his vision, balance and ability to break away once he finds daylight. A Division I caliber athlete, Mangrum’s versatility shows in the passing game as well, where he’s added seven receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns. He’s a complete offensive weapon capable of carrying a team deep into the postseason. Defenders have struggled to contain his burst and power combination, making him one of the toughest players in the state to game plan for. Mangrum lit up the scoreboard in the upset over Denver East. He had 17 carries for 190 yards and 4 touchdowns with 1 reception for 13 yards. He averaged 11.2 yards per carry and his longest rush was 58 yards. He showed off his very good athletic ability due to elite speed, change of direction, very good acceleration, and balance. Mangrum has elite vision and weaves around defenders. On his first TD play, he juked out 3 defenders and ran through the entire defense for a 60+ yard TD. Very good juke moves and dynamic cuts. Mangrum has home run speed, and consistently would gain yards after contact. Even though he’s a weaver, he isn’t afraid of getting physical and laying the boom. Mangrum also showed off his blocking skills out ins pace. He lined up in the slot to block for his QB on the option, and killed it. Locked up the LB on 2 separate option plays, and created lanes for his QB. Kid is a dawg, and I believe he will cement himself as one of the top running backs in the state after this season.

The other half of Sand Creek’s outstanding backfield, Mangrum brings versatility that allows him to impact games in multiple ways. He’s explosive in the open field, capable of breaking long runs once he finds daylight. Mangrum’s speed and agility make him a problem on the edge, but what sets him apart is his ability to contribute as a receiver out of the backfield. With soft hands and precise route running, he gives Sand Creek’s offense another dimension, forcing defenses to account for him on every snap. After a 1,000-yard campaign last season, Mangrum has already proven his ability, but this year he looks to elevate his game even further. He’s a player that could open Week 1 with a statement performance.
