Smith has the physical presence and motor that every defensive front needs. With 32 total tackles on the season, he’s proven to be a dependable contributor capable of holding his ground against strong offensive lines. Smith’s ability to collapse pockets and to put pressure on quarterbacks gives his defense flexibility on key downs when they need a stop. He’s also shown growth in his awareness against the run, consistently filling gaps and disrupting plays before they develop. As a rotational player, Smith has taken advantage of every opportunity, showing flashes of dominance that project well for his future. With continued development, he has the potential to evolve into a true game wrecker at the next level.

Smith had a nice day at the combine. He has good athletic ability due to good speed, acceleration, jumping, and change of direction. Good release at the line of scrimmage. Smith showed quick feet and fluid route running during the drills. Against the LBs, he stood up to the task. Matching the physicality. If he got beat on one play, he came back the next to dominate. Keep an eye out for this tight end as he continues his development!

Smith impressed with his precise route running and ability to exploit soft spots in zone defenses. Though his testing numbers weren’t eye popping, Smith’s ability to make tough catches during drills and live reps is what grabbed my attention. A physical, two-way player at tight end and defensive line, Smith projects as a player that can move the chains and be possession receiving threat with upside.
