Expert Analysis

The more reps I see Eli take on the defensive side, the more I like him on that side of the field. He has great length, is light on his feet, has good hips, and plays with great instincts on the defensive side of the ball. He has good cover skills and disrupts passing windows. He shows good closing speed and has the quickness needed. His accolades as a receiver are obvious, and he’s a player who possesses great tools as a boundary receiver. His length, speed, and ability to win all three levels make him a deadly receiver, which is why he’s recruited at the P4 level. Just a great athlete.

Eli is a natural receiver and is a true X, but watching him play 7’s this offseason and getting more and more comfortable as a cornerback has been fun to see. At first, he was using his athleticism and speed to play the position, but he’s been using technique now and feels more at home on that side of the ball. That will do him wonders for when the season comes, as he’ll have an understanding of facing an opposing corner and what to do to beat him one-on-one. Eli has the athleticism, speed, and playmaking ability to be a big-time recruit. He’s a fun player to watch create after the catch, and he’s primed for a huge season as he faces 6A competition for the upcoming season.

It’s been fun watching Eli as a cornerback during the 7’s series this offseason, and he’s a player who could easily be recruited at the P4 level for either side of the ball. He has excellent movement and has the hip fluidity needed to be a cover corner. His bread and butter will be on offense and as a receiver. His footwork is clean, his routes are crisp, and his hands are strong. He’s a receiver who is primed to hit the national stage with his transfer up to 6A.

gets it done at receiver, linebacker and safety. With his long frame it seems Eli will naturally settle in at wide receiver as his primary position in the immediate future. Winning a State Championship and averaging 21 yards per catch during the season will easily back up this assumption. Although, six interceptions and taking two back to the house ‘aint a bad look either. Eli is a pure athlete who makes acrobatic catches look the norm. His ball skills are elite and he’s hard to catch with such a long stride length that covers ground very quickly.
