Compton class of 2027 running back Edward Rivera Edward Rivera 5'11" | 165 lbs | ATH Compton | 2027 State CA picked up an offer from Montana on Wednesday.

He only appeared in four games for Compton last season after having a monster sophomore season for South East and was a top performer at the National Preps Showcase last spring.

Rivera is committed to Sacramento State and also has an offer from Colorado State.

Notes: Rivera is one of the top running backs across southern California and is a big time pickup for the recent FBS Hornets. He is a balanced back that is a terrific receiver out of the backfield and has home run speed and big play abilities every time he touches the ball. He should be atop the rushing ranks this year and is going to be fun to watch.

Rivera made the transfer over to Compton for his Junior season and is a smooth and elusive back with home run speed and big play abilities at anytime. He is quick twitched in the hole when breaking tackles and a excellent receiver out of the backfield or in the slot running precise routes and having natural hands before turning upfield. Rivera shows great short area twitch and lateral agility to make defenders miss in the hole, can evade tacklers in-between the tackles and his start/stop abilities makes him very difficult to tackle in space. He is another no-brainer next level caliber back and should draw plenty of college looks this off-season and is one of the top returning athletes

Rivera is one of the more fluid runners across all of Southern California and has had a busy spring this far and dominated various camp he has attended. He is explosive with a ball in his hands and shows good feet in traffic, quick start/stop abilities and can shake defenders in the hole while doing a good job running behind his pads and finishing runs in the open field. He has tremendous downfield speed and can create separation in the clear, force defenders to take bad angles and shows vision in space when working against flow and shows natural hands out of the backfield as well and is a overall very well rounded back. The 3-star prospect currently has an early offer from Sac State and should see plenty of FCS+ offers roll in over the next 12 months.

I didn’t get to see a ton of the running backs in the one-on-one portion but Rivera was running wide open against the linebackers and was catching everything. He’s a really good athlete who has receiver type speed.
