I just spoke about Drew in a recent artcicle, but hey, he fits this topic flawlessly.
I’ve watched Drew play practically every defensive position minus D-Line. Plus, he has experience playing receiver and running back.
When Drew was a freshman, he was an electric running back, and I viewed him as a future college back. I thought he had enough toughness, contact balance, and vision to develop at the position.
Later on, he’s bounced around positions, but it seems he’s settled in as an off-ball Will LB or even a Strong Safety. Drew’s tape says that he’s physical and reactive enough to play both. I don’t quite know how his pass coverage is at either position, but I’d feel comfortable letting him work in zone coverage. The run game is where Drew truly thrives. A lot of the time, a prospect is either physical or he’s not- and Drew is very physical in the run game. Love how Drew accellerates toward the ballcarrier and runs through him. No extra yards awarded when Drew is in front of you.

Consistentcy.
I’ve been very up and down on Drew over the years. When Drew was a freshman, I was incredibly impressed by his athleticism and contact balance as an RB. Then, he transitioned to DB, and I honestly didn’t think he had the speed or explosiveness to succeed at that position. Now, he’s an all-state D1-offered Safety / LB- two positions he’s flawlessly transitioned into.
Through that came incredibly steady, consistent work. This is a player I’ve seen several times every single offseason. A guy who, despite a few position changes, has never lost hope and always improved. Now, he’s a reactive defender, extremely physical, and man, has he been consistent.

I think Drew is a really underrated athlete in this class. His size isn’t what draws me to him, but instead his effort, football IQ, and athleticism really sets him apart from some of the others. He does a fantastic job of tracking the ball in coverage, and doesn’t get beat deep. He sticks with his guy and does a really nice job of reading the QBs shoulders. He backpedals very naturally, and has good closing speed. I think he could be a stud D2 guy in the making, and who knows, maybe D1.

Drew is a very versatile player, showing a ton of promise offensively being able to run the ball well, especially bouncing outside with tremendous speed. Defensively, he should be getting some love as he is a true ball hawk. Wherever the ball goes, he isn’t far behind. He can pick the ball off on the backend, and come up and stuff the run as well. Keep an eye out as he jumps up into a varsity role to be molded into another TCW stud.
