Huegel sees a significant bump in his ranking in the final 2025 PRZ rankings release, and checks in as a top 45 defensive linemen in the state and just outside the top 350 overall. The UC Davis signee is coming off a stellar Senior season for one of the top programs in the Northern Section, and was one of the Aggies earlier commits in the 2025 cycle last Summer. He has the ideal frame and build for multiple positions up-front, and plays with plus twitch/leverage and is fluid for his size coming off the edge. Overall, Huegel is a well balanced and technically sound edge player that could kick inside as well in college and is a very nice get for UC Davis.

University Prep (Redding) defensive lineman Devin Huegel Devin Huegel 6'5" | 250 lbs | DL University Preparatory | 2025 State CA announced his commitment to UC Davis on Thursday.

Huegel had 67 tackles, 32 for a loss, 14 sacks, two forced fumbles and a blocked punt last season.

UC Davis offered him in May and he also had offers from Minot State and Sacramento State. Huegel is the first defensive player in UC Davis’ 2025 recruiting class.

Offers: UC Davis Huegel finally pulled in his first offer from UC Davis, and he is a no brainer FCS caliber player that should see other offers come in this Spring. He has elite length and very impressive athleticism/COD abilities for his size with violent hands and is a very disruptive pass rusher from various spots up front.

Huegel should be closing in on his first FCS offer, as he is a no brainer FCS+ level talent and one of the top defensive linemen in the region. He is coming off a stellar junior season campaign for one of the top teams in the northern section, and should be one of Norcal’s leading sack leaders in 2024. He is explosive off the ball, shoots his hands quickly and can violently get off blocks while providing a relentless pass rush and pressure off the edge. He also shows very impressive position versatility and can kick inside when needed, locks out blockers and does a good job at using his length to his advantage and playing long. He is a high motor kid that can collapse the pocket quickly and makes consistent plays in the backfield. All of 6’4 and change, he can pack on more weight in college and fill out his frame, giving him tons of growth potential.

One of the top players in the Northern Section recently picked up his first offer from Minot State, and other D2+ schools will likely follow suit as he has the ideal size, length and sudden quickness near the ball to play at the next level. He also flashes active hands, a good strike and plays with a high motor at all times. Look for University Prep to be one of Northern California’s top small school teams come Fall.

Huegel is one of the top players in the Northern Section, and one of the more productive two-way prospects Norcal has to offer. He anchors the line for one of the better small school teams in the region, and projects as a inside guy at the next level due to his frame, that can pack on more size and movement abilities inside. He flashes nice twitch and has active hands at the POA, while doing an excellent job at re-setting the LOS in the run game and exploding off the ball while playing violent. Huegel offers position versatility, but is a mismatch inside due to his quick first step and heavy hands at the POA.
