Derrell Pierson
About Derrell
Expert Analysis
Todd Haldis | Prep Redzone Scout
Derrell is possibly Milford Mill’s biggest playmaker from the receiver position. He totaled over 600 yards and 4 td’s last season, and averaged 17.5. ypc. He is a big play threat and currently holds two FCS offers, and don’t be shocked if more come his way this fall.
A vertical playmaker, Derrell has nice burst of the snap and able to get up to top speed quickly to pass by the DB. He has a fluid long stride, eating up ground to stretch the field. At the National Preps Spring Showcase this fall, he flashed real nice footwork and the ability to break down/drop his hips, and quickly change directions. This leads to him running crisp routes and a versatile route tree. Derrell has a lot of plays where he beats the defense on go routes, but I expect him to show more of his route running this season after what I’ve seen of him this summer. A good size X receiver, Derrell is able to use his frame to position himself well for the ball. Can go across the middle as well as going up to high point the ball, showing natural hands. Derrell is still an under rated prospect in my mind a name you need to know going into this season.

Pierson is the next guy up at the Baltimore County powerhouse Milford. He’s been contributing on the varsity level since his sophomore year now and last year he put on a promising performance. Last season he finished as a receiving leader for his class and showed that he has multiple skills in his arsenal. He was used as a deep threat and showed some tough running after short catches and across the middle of the field.

Pierson is a prospect who’s made major strides and found his place on a stacked Milford team. This season he recorded 600+ yards with 4 touchdowns, after the catch he runs with authority, muscling through first contact and showing his strength by carrying defenders for extra yards. With the loss of a few key seniors Pearson will be looked to, to play a bigger role on the offense.

Pierson is a young receiver with 2 handfuls of experience who may be on the verge of a breakout season. As a sophomore he saw the field a lot during the championship run and showed that he could be a threat at every level. He’s a long strider who doesn’t waste movement in his routes. His route running is crip and strict, after the catch he gets up field and eats up yardage. I’ve seen Pierson play a lot of 7-on-7 over the past two years and he’s been on the rise since my first time evaluating him. As a veteran starter, expect Derrell to turn some heads and shock some defenses as a threat.
