Darren Hester Darren Hester 5'10" | 185 lbs | DL Plainfield | 2025 State NJ is a versatile defender for the Cardinals who is utilized to rush off the edge or play a traditional mike ‘backer role. When coming off the edge Hester seems to possess a strong get off, maybe even jumping the snap. Part of what I think aids Hester in this part of his game is that he hugs the line of scrimmage, minimizing space and maximizing his sight lines. He squeezes with appropriate depth in the backfield and takes away his inside gap. Additionally, as the season went on we see Hester improving his wrong arm technique. He also is reactive, getting his hands up to deflect quick screen game pass attempts or passes in the flat. When in the box we see that Hester seems to see things clearly, getting down hill and finding a gap to attack rather quickly. He accelerates downhill and then slows down as he approaches the ball carrier to make the tackle. Sideline-to-sideline hustle is a part of his game too. Finally, as climbing linemen approach him we see that the 2025 graduate execute an outstanding drip, rip, and restack to be in perfect position to corral the ball carrier. Cleaning up false steps will aid Hester in improving upon his 37 tackle (17 solo) and 3 sack campaign as a sophomore.
