Expert Analysis
Robert Davis | Prep Redzone Scout
Baca put together a solid season but his film from the Mile High Prep provides an even better look at the tools that make him a prospect worth monitoring. Baca has the traits of a physical cornerback who thrives in competitive situations. He does an excellent job in press coverage, using strong hands and technique to press receivers at the line of scrimmage and throw off the timing of routes. Throughout his film, he consistently stays connected to receivers and demonstrates the ability to transition his eyes to his keys. His awareness and understanding of leverage allow him to play with confidence in coverage. What separates Baca from many defensive backs is his willingness to contribute in run support. He attacks downhill aggressively, takes proper angles and shows the ability to consistently make open field tackles. His physical style of play and competitive nature are evident on every snap. As he continues building on the momentum he gained this offseason, Baca has a chance to establish himself as one of the more intriguing defensive backs in his class and a player who could begin attracting much more attention.

Baca brings an intriguing blend of makeup speed, anticipation and competitive toughness to the cornerback position. He excels in trail technique, using his recovery burst to close ground and disrupt passes, high pointing the football. Baca recorded 30 total tackles and two interceptions, highlighting his ball skills and willingness to be involved in run support. His ability to read route concepts and get in and out of breaks allows him to create turnover opportunities. As he looks to carve out a larger role, his defensive impact was something that stands out from this season. With continued refinement in technique and confidence, Baca has the tools to become a consistent difference maker in the secondary.

Baca measures in at 5’11 148-pounds. He had 7 receptions for 64 yards with 30 total tackles (19 solo, 11 assisted), 2 INT, and 1 PD. Baca has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration, jumping, and good change of direction. Good back pedal paired with fluid hips. Very good man coverage. He’ll stay stride for stride with his man and use his very good closing quickness to create pass deflections or get the interception. Good ball tracking and catching skills. Good read and reaction. Very good competitive toughness. He’ll use his homerun speed to chase down receivers on the opposite side of the field to stop them from getting a walk-in touchdown. Very good job in run support with his tackling and aggressiveness. Keep an eye on Cruz as we continue into the off-season!

While Cruz had a breaking out as RB as a FR, in 2025 Baca showed his impact at CB and WR. Baca finished the season with 30 TKLs, 2 INTs, 1 PBU and 7 catches for 64 yds on offense. His tape shows great speed especially in the open field. He hustles ferociously downfield when ball is thrown to the other half of the field and is great in pursuit with multiple hawking tackles on ball carriers that seem to be headed for the EZ. Offensively, Baca does a good job getting vertical after securing the catch for YAC and is a determined blocker on the perimeter helping spring big runs.

Baca is a bigger back with breakaway speed and natural vision. He has the frame to absorb contact but is at his best when bouncing runs to the outside and turning upfield with burst. Baca is a home run threat anytime he gets into open space, showcasing the top end speed needed to flip field position and finish big plays. His ability to find daylight at the line of scrimmage and quickly accelerate through to the second level makes him one of the more explosive backs in the 2028 class. If he gets consistent touches, he could turn into a highlight reel machine this season.
