is the dive back in Athen’s run first flexbone offense. Craig plays that position perfectly as he can hit the hole full speed and get down hill in a hurry. He is a compact runner that runs hard and is always falling forward when he is getting tackled. He’s been a touchdown machine in his 4 years as he holds the school record for touchdown in a career. Last week Craig was able to score all 4 touchdowns for Athens as they took down Nashville 28-27 in a close game. He will look to help carry his team this week to victory against Shelbyville in the semifinals.

is another running back who lit it up this last season. With over 1,400 All-Purpose yards throughout the 2022 season, Cory was good for more than 140 yards a game of total offense. Cory also proved to have a nose for the endzone, scoring 20 touchdowns last season. You just don’t see this kind of season stat line on paper too often. One of the first things that stood out to me when evaluating his film was the breakaway speed that I saw in Cory. Once he found green grass, he was off to the races and no one was going to catch him. Cory is also a gritty runner who has no problem getting downhill between the tackles. With him playing low, Cory fights through the crowded trenches to move the ball downfield. Overall, Cory’s tape as a ton of fun to watch. With everything that I have seen from him, I would expect him to have another big year at Athens High School and continue to be one of the rushing leaders in the state.
There wasn’t much that stopped the leading rusher in the Sangamo in 2022. Cory rushed for over 1500 yards and scored 20 touchdowns as a junior and I look for marked improvements on both of those numbers his senior year. He has the speed to take it to the house from anywhere on the field and enough power to be a threat banging it up the middle as well. While he plays “fullback” in the Warriors offensive scheme, he is a definite tailback at the next level. Oh, and he also recorded almost 100 tackles playing linebacker as well.
