Bates got some work as a freshman last year and showed some encouraging traits. He understands how to set his feet in the pocket and doesn’t hold onto the ball too long, which helps keep the offense on schedule. He’s comfortable throwing on the move to his right and has good length to see over the line and locate passing windows. There’s still development ahead, but the foundation is there. He strikes me as a quarterback who should develop nicely with more reps and experience.
