It was my first time scouting Townsend in person. I came away impressed with his talents and potential when he led Pleasant Valley to an important Class 5A victory against Liberty on Friday night. The junior engineered a fierce second-half comeback with three touchdown passes. He also led the team in rushing yardage. While he’s not cookie-cutter size for the position, Townsend brings plenty of other tools to the table. He’s in command of the huddle and poised in the pocket. The ball comes out on time with the zip to slip it through tight windows. Townsend can gain yards on the ground, and his mobility helps him keep plays alive off of schedule. He’s developed nicely this season, and it will be interesting to see what he could do on the college camp circuit next summer.

Pleasant Valley leaned on a senior starter behind center in 2025. Townsend served as the backup during his sophomore campaign, getting into position for a run at the QB1 gig next fall. In limited varsity duty, he completed 50 percent of his passes for 183 yards and a pair of touchdowns without an interception. Proving he’s a dual-threat defenses must contain, Townsend rushed for 300 yards (6.8 YPC) and five touchdowns. The only highlight video on his Hudl page is from varsity action against Iowa City West in Week 3 last season. On it, Townsend flashes the arm and athleticism to make him a top breakout pick for the upcoming season.
