One of the biggest winners out of North Dakota’s First Flagship Camp of the summer came out of Colorado and a talented Valor Christian program that I keep running into on the recruiting trail. Rising junior DB

kickstarted his recruitment in a big way, earning his first Division 1 offer from the hosting Hawks thanks to a prolific performance in every phase of the camp. With the athleticism to play man coverage at the D1 level, Dean took a ton of reps during 1v1s, coming away with 3 INTs during, one of which was memorable, to say the least, as he made the contested pick with the WR draped all over him. We also saw Dean’s smooth INT on a WR’s deep out route, which came in impression fashion. He also made a pick on the best WR in attendance, who was as fast as he was good at running routes, and Dean overall was physical at the top of the route and able to disrupt WRs timing and path throughout their breaks. Plus, the top-end speed and twitch allowed him to stay in a wideout’s hip pocket consistently, and his breaks were clean, quick, well-timed, and physical. He also showed he could smoothly and easily swivel his hips prior during drill work. Additionally, Dean showed ball skills and was comfortable tracking and playing the ball in the air, especially the deep ball. However, I believe what really put Dean over the edge in terms of earning the offer was how coachable he was. From rep to rep, Dean was coming off the field, listening to the coaches and UND players coaching him up, and applying it rep to rep. It was fun to watch, and the rising junior’s overall body of work made for one of the most memorable days of this young man’s life. Well deserved!

Dean has been turning heads during this camp season earning his first D1 offer from University of North Dakota. He had a strong camp performance with 3 interceptions. You can see his highlights down below. The 6’0 170-pound DB/WR has good athletic ability due to his very good speed, acceleration, good change of direction, and jumping. He’s a physical defensive back who thrives with jamming and re-route attempts. Very good closing quickness and man coverage. Stays stride for stride with the receiver. Great timing on his interceptions. Plucks the ball out from in front of the receiver. In his time for the Valor JV offense, he balled out. Used his burners to consistently get open. Dean has shown to come back during the QB scramble drill making himself an easy target for his QB. This kid is just getting started.

Dean is a defensive back prospect with the athletic traits and versatility to become an important contributor moving forward. He shows strong top end speed, allowing him to turn and run with quick slot receivers while staying in phase downfield. Dean also displays solid vision and ball skills, giving him the ability to track passes and come away with interceptions when opportunities arise. Beyond his coverage ability, he is not hesitant to come downhill and support against the run, bringing physicality and effort near the line of scrimmage. His willingness to contribute in multiple areas adds value to his overall game. As he continues carving out a larger role for himself, Dean has the tools to become a name that gains increasing attention throughout the upcoming season.
