Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
Fields has had a very busy spring after a successful Junior season which saw Carson in a CIF regional bowl game against a tough Kennedy-Delano squad. He is a true dual-threat passer with elite athleticism out of the pocket, track speed int he open field and is tough to take down in open space while very comfortable throwing the ball with defenders in his face. In the pocket, he can throw at all three levels accurately, gets the ball out on time and can throw across his body without losing zip. Fields is one of the top returning passers in all of southern California, and has seen his recruitment pickup gathering offers from Air Force and Army.

Fields, a 6-1, 185-pound dual-threat QB, is emerging with poise and arm strength, posting 65% completion in camps. Strengths: Reads defenses, accurate throws, mobility (900 rushing yards projected). Weaknesses: Still building consistency under pressure. Against Rakowski’s offense, Fields should attack by mixing runs to keep defenses honest, targeting deep to exploit mismatches.

True dual-threat with proven big-game production and leadership. Listed at 6’1”, 200 lbs with good functional strength. Nearly 1,000 rushing yards as a junior plus Open Division MVP, All-State Junior Team, and Daily Breeze Offensive Player of the Year honors. Three FCS offers already on the table. The explosive play-making ability and poise in the pocket translate with clean mechanics, quick release, and the ability to extend plays with his legs while keeping eyes downfield. Projection: High-major dual-threat with immediate starter potential at the Group of 5 level and Power 4 upside if he continues to refine accuracy under pressure. The complete package for a modern spread or RPO offense.

Fields threw for 163 yards with a touchdown and ran for 148 yards with a touchdown in a win over Garfield in the Open Division semifinals.
He has receiver speed once he gets into the open field and makes good decisions on read/option plays. His legs make him a nightmare to game plan for and if you keep guys in the box to contain him, he will hurt you with the pass.

Fields averaged 109 yards per game with 10 touchdowns and ran for 10 touchdowns last season for Carson.
He was very good at the Prep Redzone Showcase in January and the film backs up that performance. Fields has a quick release and the ball jumps out of his hand. He’s a good improviser who can scramble for big yards when nothing is there. Fields is a guy who should have some offers by the end of the year.

Fields threw for 1198 yards with 10 touchdowns for Carson last season against a very tough schedule.
He was impressive at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase in January. He is a really good athlete who can make plays with his legs when there is nothing there. Fields can also deliver good passes in the pocket with his quick release and the ball comes out of his hand nicely. He gets into his drop quickly and has good pocket awareness.

A lot to like about the sophomore QB that transferred to Carson after playing his freshman season at Lawndale and spending a short time at St. Pius X St. Matthias. At 6’1” 185 lbs. he’s an athlete that competes hard and shows he can be a dual-threat playmaker. He gets into his drop quickly landing with a well-balanced throwing platform as he scans the field and goes through his progression. He’s got a quick release and drives the ball with rotation. Does a good job feeling pressure and stepping up in the pocket to avoid while keeping his eyes downfield. Can also stand in the pocket and deliver with defenders closing in knowing he’ll take a hit. Like his ability to improvise to create production off of broken plays. Athleticism and speed allow him to be effective as a ball carrier when protection breaks down or on designed runs. Strong foundational skillset to build on with excellent upside and potential.
