About Charlie
Expert Analysis
Michael Huntley | Prep Redzone Scout
Eckl competed at a Prep Redzone Showcase in the spring and was one of the more physically impressive players in the early part of the event before he had to leave due to a prior commitment.
He suffered an arm injury during training camp and had 25 tackles with two sacks in just five games. Eckl took an official visit to Cal Poly in late October. He also had an offer from Northern Arizona.

Recent Commitment: Cal Poly
Notes: Eckl is an exceptional athlete from the edge and can play a variety of different positions along the defensive front, and is a twitchy and high upside prospect that holds tons of growth potential.

6’3” 210 lbs. Eckl is a pure football player. Physically gifted, he’s a two-way standout who’s drawn multiple D1 offers thanks to his impact at both TE and DE. Offensively, he’s a matchup problem – big enough to body defenders in the red zone, yet athletic enough to create separation and extend gains after the catch. He runs clean routes for his size, shows soft hands, and finishes through contact. As a blocker, he brings toughness and effort with the frame to continue developing in-line strength/size. On defense, he’s equally disruptive off the edge. Fires off the ball with good burst, uses his length to keep blockers away from his body, and plays with a high motor. He sets a strong edge in the run game and can bend and redirect to the ball in pursuit. His combination of size, athleticism, and versatility make him a high ceiling prospect on either side of the ball at the D1 level.

Eckl is one of the top outside linebackers across the region and is coming off a stellar Junior season campaign for Dana Hills. He has the ideal length, closing speed and frame for the outside linebacker position in college and shows a good mix of pass rush abilities, bend and coverage downfield/in the flats. He is strong at the point of attack when shedding blockers and shows he can set the edge, lock blockers out away from his chest and keep his outside shoulder free before collapsing on ball carriers. He is a high motor kid that shows tremendous backside pursuit and closing speed and brings a good thump at the point of attack with plus pass rushing tools/hands around the corner. He should draw plenty of FCS interest through his senior season and is a key WL name to note.

Eckl is a two-way guy who contributed heavily at tight end and as an edge guy for a good Dana Hills team this season.
As a defender, he has sideline-to-sideline speed and he lays big hits on people. You can’t leave him unblocked on outside screens are zone plays away from him because he has the speed to run a long distance to make the tackle. Eckl is solid at shedding blocks and has the frame to add some muscle this offseason.
