Expert Analysis
Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
Wafer is electric with the ball in his hands. 5’11” 175 lbs. he possesses a complete skillset to be an explosive runner and reliable receiver. As a ball carrier, he applies early pressure to the defense with his quick acceleration through the first level. He’s patient as the play and his blocks develop but is decisive when he triggers to plant and get square. Can pick up yards between the tackles or use his speed to turn the corner on the outside and that speed allows him to outrun angles and extend gains. Tough to catch once in space, he’s a home run threat if not contained early in the play. Strong hands with a diverse route tree out of the backfield showing good timing on screens and short passes and the ability to push vertically while tracking the ball in the air. Recruitment is off to a fast start with offers coming in from Colorado State, NAU, Utah, UNLV, and Montana State.

Wafer looks to have picked up right where he left off last season and has had a explosive start to his Junior year as one of the top players in the central valley. In week 2 he had another stellar performance rushing for multiple touchdowns and going over the 100 yard marker on the ground. Buchanan had a very nice win over Kennedy and is looking to take another step forward in week 3 next Friday night.

He is a one cut runner inside that can get north and south quickly, shows he can make tacklers miss in the hole and can quickly get into his second and third gear. He also shows good vision and cutback abilities while doing a good job sticking behind his blocks and exploding through small gaps inside. His diverse play-style make him a intriguing prospect and a no-brainer FCS+ caliber player that should be gathering plenty of college opportunities soon.

Wafer is one of the top returning backs across the central valley, and another prospect that is a no-brainer next level kid. He is a patient runner that shows good open field speed, a strong initial burst and shows quick foot speed, lateral agility and short area quickness in traffic. In the open field, he is tough to take down due to sneaky third level speed and contact balance, and he also shows he is a natural pass catcher out of the backfield. Wafer checks into our rankings just outside the top 300 and should breakout for Buchanan in 2025.
