He’s long and covers ground fast, which lets him read and jump passing lanes from the safety spot. That basketball athleticism really shows when he goes up for the ball, and he isn’t shy about sticking his nose in against the run. He’s the kind of versatile defender every coach wants in the back end.

Pope has been extremely productive as a two-year starter at Safety for Crismon with 140 tackles and 22 PBU’s showing he can be equally effective in run support as he is in coverage. He’s got a long frame at 6’2” 180 lbs. that will add mass as he progresses. He’s smart and instinctive as he diagnoses the play and reacts quickly to his read. Smooth change of direction he gets a hard break on the ball to close space with speed. Plays well with his eyes to see route combinations, get into position, and stay sustain coverage. Efficient with his angles to the ball coming down in run support and proves he can tackle in space. One to watch with good potential to build on.

Pope was extremely effective as a freshman racking up 84 total tackles and 11 PBU’s. He’s got good length and growth potential in his frame at 6’2” 180 lbs. On defense, he’s an attacking defender that flashes excellent range and ability against both the run and pass. He makes quick decisive reads to diagnose the play and trigger to the ball. Takes good angles and proves to be a reliable open field tackler. A playmaker on both sides of the ball that will be a major impact player for Crismon going into the 2024 season.

At 6’2″ and 180 lbs he has no problem holding his own when a bigger receiver steps up to the line, while still possessing the speed to keep up with the smaller ones. When Pope goes out for a pass, you see more of that toughness and strength with his abilities after the catch. Rarely ever going down on the first tackle attempt, he can provide a spark for his offense when they need one. Going into his sophomore season, Pope will undoubtedly make a real impact on the Crismon defense and has the chance to be a real game changer on both sides of the ball.
