While perhaps a bit lighter than most inside linebackers at 180 pounds, Grim more than compensates for any interior size disadvantages by aggressively attacking the line of scrimmage versus the run game, skillfully shedding blockers with violent/active hands and utilizing his speed to make plays from a multitude of angles. Starting 10 games last fall both inside and outside in the Tigers’ 3-4 defensive package, he collected 68 solo tackles, 44 assists and 3 tackles for loss while also displaying the range and athleticism to cover both backs and inside slot receivers in the intermediate passing game. His team’s top tackler last season, his continued development this fall will prove to be a huge boost to his squad’s improving defensive fortunes.

Cain Grim Cain Grim 5'11" | 180 lbs | LB Paintsville | 2024 State KY is one of the better defensive prospects in Class 1A ball at consistently making defensive stops and limiting excess yards gained by the opposing offense every time he is on the field. Grim, a 5’11 180lb 2024 grad from Paintsville High School, produced a great 2022 season for them by recording 112 total tackles (68 unassisted) and 3 tackles for loss in 10 games played. Like some of the other top linebacker prospects in the bluegrass state, Cain is equipped with fantastic on-field IQ and defensive awareness that he uses to completely exploit every offensive snap. Cain can always adapt to the positioning of the offense and set himself in the right place to block out incoming weak holes in the defense to prevent running gaps to open. On passing routes, Cain can read the QBs intended target before he throws the ball and can create defensive pressure once it’s thrown. Grim also possesses quick acceleration to get across the field to assist in making a tackle, even taking over for making the defensive stop. Cain Grim Cain Grim 5'11" | 180 lbs | LB Paintsville | 2024 State KY comes in as a new player added to my defensive recruiting radar. Playing for Paintsville high school, the linebacker is excellent at finishing plays and pinning down opposing ball carriers nearly every snap. Despite not being as bigger as his teammates on the line of scrimmage, he hits nearly as hard when tackling players. Even without fully using his lower half to gain leverage on the ball carrier, Grim has superb upper body strength that can take over and pin down the player without much of an issue. What I like most about Cain is his defensive IQ. Although not knowing the opposing team’s playbook for every game, Cain makes us feel like he does with how insanely accurate he is at reading the offense. Even when a QB audibles an intended play, Grim takes charge and effectively communicates with his defense to correctly react to the offensive shift and still make the stop. Cain is a great defensive captain for his team and has the capabilities of performing those same duties at the next level. As of now, however, he has no public offers from any schools. Hopefully, this changes after his upcoming senior season at Paintsville.
