A prospect that’s picked up a ton of interest and offers this spring, similar to Buthe, all nine of Newman’s Division I offers have come since mid-February, with five coming in the last week — Northern Iowa, UAB, New Mexico, Army and Northern Illinois.
Standing at a towering 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, Newman possesses rare ball-skills for a tight end his size and age, able to track down passes over the top of his head and while fighting coverage. He’s not the fastest on his feet, but Newman makes up for it with high-level awareness of where he’s at on the football field — making tip-toe catches on the sideline and in the back of the endzone — plus a wide catch-radius. As a blocker, he sets the edge for runners, while also getting out to the second-level and working to find someone to block to help our the ball-carrier behind him.
Frankly, it’s a bit of a surprise Power 4 programs haven’t stepped in, especially a close-to-home Iowa State. With another season of establishing a connection with QB

not only debuts as a top-20 prospect in this update, but also earns the spot of TE1. As a junior, Cade saw limited touches but still managed to flash high-level upside as he recorded 10 catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Newman is a player who passes the eye test immediately at 6’5″ and 215 pounds with room to continue maxing out his frame at the next level. His size creates instant mismatches against defenders as they’re usually unable to challenge Newman at the ball’s high point. Cade also does a great job tracking the ball and has reliable hands at the catch point. Another aspect of Cade’s game that stood out was his effectiveness as a blocker in the run game. He works almost as an extension of the line, displaying the physicality and strength to drive defenders off the ball. Don’t be surprised if colleges start getting in the mix soon.

Newman is a really good athlete whose college future could very well end up being on the baseball diamond. He caught one pass for 35 yards as a sophomore on the Centennial Football team in ’24, illustrating big-play ability as a receiver. It will be a big spring and summer for Newman in football and baseball. There’s a good chance he rises up the recruiting boards when scouts get their eyes on him.
