Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Leal had an impressive 5 games for Chatfield. The freshman running back had 72 carries for 3 touchdowns with 4 receptions for 55 yards. Leal has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, change of direction and balance. Leal has a quick start and no wasted movements. He uses his very good vision to find holes, weaving through the defense for a big gain. Leal consistently gains yards after contact due to his balance and him bouncing around. He has powerful legs that churn forward. Very good inside and outside running. He turns the corner and uses his homerun speed to get free. One thing I was impressed of, was Leal’s ability to block in pass protection. He gets dirty with it, and excels. He is a name to know moving forward.

Leal balled out within the 5 games he played. He had 72 carries for 452 yards, 3 TDs, 4 receptions for 55 yards. In 4 out of the 5 games played, he went over a 100+ yards. Leal has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration, change of direction, and good balance. He utilizes his good vision to find holes. Very explosive first step. During one play, he got stuffed at the line of scrimmage, and bounced around the OL/DL to gain ten plus yards. Leal is a weaver by using his change of direction to juke out defenders and around them. Very good outside runner, turning the corner and accelerating all the way through. Leal isn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty with blocking in pass protection. An exciting young player who produced in limited game action.

Leal is a physical, downhill runner who hits the hole with purpose and consistently finds open lanes to pick up big gains. His elusiveness in space allows him to make the first defender miss, while his strength helps him power through arm tackles. Leal rushed for 452 yards and 3 touchdowns last season and is expected to see an increased workload heading into the fall.

Chatfield’s freshman running back had a big night against the defending champs. The 5’9 155-pound back had 20 carries for 106 yards and 1 touchdown, with 1 catch for 10 yards. Leal has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration, and change of direction. Leal has very good vision and mental processing. If the original gap isn’t there, he will use dynamic cuts at the line of scrimmage to either cut outside or find a new gap. Leal has powerful legs to drive himself forward taking defenders with him. In the pass game, he used his good catching skills. He made himself open during the QB scramble drill. I’m very impressed with this freshman running back. He has a plethora of traits that will propel him further.
