We are very familiar with Bryce and what he does at the QB position for this Scots team. Last night may have been one of his better performances that I’ve witnessed. From the opening kickoff he was playing with great confidence in himself and teammates. Bryce was on time and on target more often than not. He did a great job of hanging in a collapsing pocket while still being able to deliver an accurate ball downfield. Backus has wonderful size and build that he used to get downhill in the QB run game. I was very impressed with how successful he was on third and 4th down. Converting 6/9 plays to keep his Caledonia offense flowing almost perfectly. He accounted for 4 TDs, 3 in the air to 2 different receivers with 1 coming on the ground.

Super impressive start to the season for Bryce and his Caledonia team! This squad is absolutely cruising on offense, and Backus has been a major part of that.

Just in week 1, he put up an 8/12 day with 207 yards and 3 touchdowns as well as 87 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground. In week 2, he helped his squad jump out to an early lead before turning the QB duties to the backup.

From the mental side of the game to the obvious physical tools, Backus is one of the most well rounded quarterbacks in the state. Now he just needs the film to show off those exact tools.

Bryce was a player I was excited to dig into the film on and the first thing that stands out is his toughness. Bryce shows an ornate ability to stand in the pocket as it collapses and deliver strikes down the field. Bryce displays a solid arm and shows an ability to make every throw on the field. Bryce also does a good job of throwing on the run and tucking it when a play breaks down and picking up yards with his feet. in a class loaded with quarterbacks Bryce does not take a back seat to any of them. With a team with multiple weapons returning watch out for this Scots team in the fall.

Bryce continues to evolve and build himself into a formidable QB in the state of Michigan. On Sunday alone, I saw huge progress in multiple areas. His thrown motion is extremely quick and concise. No wasted movement. His arm strength continues to trend in the right direction, and his accuracy was as good as I have seen from him. I loved his strong platform and the way he was able to turn and rip the ball on a rope. The Caledonia QB is moving in the right direction on all fronts. Great overall showing.

The latest highlights from Bryce show a bunch of great flashes. Caledonia allows him to get out and move the pocket which he executes well. His arm is strong and he delivers with good velocity. His trigger is pretty quick, and he hits timing routes with ease. Whether it be leading his guy downfield or threading the ball through a tight window, Bryce has shown he is able to do it. I think this season is the one where the game really slows down for him and he takes that next step in his progression. The size and physical talent is there, now it’s’ about execution.

Bryce shows a ton of flashes.

First off, he passes the eye test with flying colors. Has the size that Division 1 colleges are looking for. Plus, a couple of passes that I watched were very impressive. At his best, Bryce is able to make any throw.
Though he’s pretty inconsistent. The two videos I have show differing mechanics, and he’s overall not as consistently accurate as I’d like for a D1-level QB. Absolutely shows the flashes, has solid testing numbers, and great size.

Backus has all of the makings of a really solid QB in the 2027 class. He has no issues playing in or out of the pocket. He has received a good deal of D1 looks in recent months, and if you turn on the tape you’ll see why. He has nice touch and accuracy on deep balls and gets the ball out quickly on intermediate throws. Hopefully I can see him work this offseason and see what kind of development comes over the next few months!

Bryce has solidified himself as a very solid QB in the class of 2027. Running the Caledonia offense, Bryce excels throwing outside of the pocket. He has several instances of good, on-schedule deep balls both from inside the pocket and on the run. Even better, a lot of those deep balls were thrown to crossing routes while Bryce was on the run, which is a VERY difficult throw to complete.

Moving forward, I’m looking to see what Bryce shows this offseason. I’m looking for consistent mechanics alongside better demonstrating throws to all parts of the field. Right now, Bryce’s highlights aren’t that diverse. Seeing him throw in a 7on7 setting would set the record straight on his updated evaluation.

Right now, I view Bryce as a future D3 Quarterback.
