Expert Analysis
Prep Staff | Prep Redzone Scout
With close to 50 total touchdowns on the season, Brody Schafer is South Dakota’s breakout player of the year.
Schafer is a top tier athlete, who makes a habit of turning broken plays into big gains, either via his legs or his arm talent.
He has the ability to make throws to all three levels, with excellent ball placement and precision. He pairs his arm talent with excellent football IQ and an obvious chemistry with all of his receivers.
With an 8-1 record, Brody and the Patriots will be a team to watch for the remainder of the season.

Schafer absolutely crushes it on the gridiron as the QB and signal caller. The Pats are ranked #1 and have a perfect 3-0 record. Lincoln is averaging 56 ppg! In the first two weeks of the season, Brody produced an astonishing 14 TOUCHDOWNS! In week 3, Schafer went 8/13 passing for 172 yards and 4 TD’s, he also rushed for 55 yards. On the court, Brody is a proven winner—a clutch playmaker who rises to the moment. He’s an athletic two-way force, impacting the game on both ends with energy, skill, and a knack for making big plays when it matters most.

Of course we had to get our live eval on our QB1 in the 2027 class, which is

of Sioux Falls Lincoln who took 11AAA by storm as a sophomore last season. Even as a 2027 prospect, I love this kid’s throwing mechanics as they keep looking even more smooth the more I watched him at SDSU as it didn’t take long to see how quick Brody can gauge quick chemistry with the wide receiving core he was working with. He has such prime efficiency on all three-levels of the field and looking back at the clips I took from his reps at SDSU, there is no question why he is not only the best 2027 QB in South Dakota, but the entire Dakotas in my eyes. He surely should be an early offer in this 2027 class. Twitter

It might sound repetitive, but its worth repeating that nobody took South Dakota by storm at the quarterback position or any position in general, more than our newest QB1

did out of Sioux Falls Lincoln in the 2024 season leading the Patriots to another state championship. The gains he made from his freshmen season were superb in a live eval sense, as Brody on tape shows off excellent poise and a quick release that easily can make any throw on all three levels. I can’t get enough of just how balanced Brody’s throws were in 2024 as just a sophomore, as his arm strength and precision especially were almost always on point all year long. Here we are in 2025, with another Schafer brother leading the pack as our QB1 in our 2027 rankings and I’ll say it: I am kicking myself he wasn’t our consensus QB1 from the jumpstart of this class.

Brody has taken 11AAA by storm with his play thus far this season for the Patriots and its clearly obvious he has taken huge steps forward since our live evals this past Spring. Unfortunately, His elusiveness out of the pocket has to be the best amongst quarterbacks in the Dakota sin this 2027 class and it’s absurd to see how durable Brody is too when getting contact on the run. His progressions show off plenty of balance and the poise this sophomore has is just awesome to watch on tape as he doesn’t show one ounce of rattle whether he takes off and runs or throws from the pocket. He has also completed over 80% of his passes thus far, which is beating out a lot of juniors and seniors that have varsity experience under their belt. The top 10 overall prospect in South Dakota is certainly due as a well-earned stock rise at the end of the season. Twitter
