Listed at 6’5” 200lbs., he never has an issue with seeing over the line of scrimmage. That massive frame is certainly a contributor to his top-tier arm strength, too. Rooney has the power to throw it over the top of any defense. What stands out to me more than the power, is the accuracy. Even when he’s on the run, he doesn’t loose that ability to consistently place the ball right where he wants it. It’s more than just hitting the receivers in the hands though, Rooney knows where the ball needs to be in order to keep it out of harm’s way. He finished the season with 21 touchdowns to just five interceptions, showcasing his good decision making. Along with accuracy, Rooney also has excellent touch on his throws. Time and time again he’s seen putting just the right amount of air on the ball to get it over the second level defenders, but come back down before defensive backs are able to make a play. Naturally, being his size, he’s incredibly hard to bring down. Even with free rushers heading straight for him, he’s able to keep his footing and power through the contact then use his surprisingly quick footing to get out of the pocket and keep the play alive. With these tools and this type of consistency, Rooney is certain to see his stock rise in his final high school season.

Rooney has a knack for keeping his eyes downfield even when the pocket collapses, scrambling not in panic, but with a deliberate intent. His awareness on the field is exceptional; he seems to have an innate sense of where his receivers are even in the midst of chaos. There’s a few times watching his film where where I thought he’d lost sight of an open man, only for him to reset his feet and deliver a throw to that very receiver. Showcasing field vision that’s simply impressive. On the run, his form is textbook, managing to harness full body power behind his throws without compromising on arm speed or mechanics. Rooney’s throws carry a nice touch, yet when the situation calls for it, he can sling it with a zip that cuts through tight windows. His game is a blend of physical prowess and mental acuity, with form that makes every throw look like a piece of quarterback artistry.
