Walden has been among the top quarterbacks in the state this year, regardless of class. He’s taken what the defense gives him, but isn’t afraid to push the ball down the field when the situation allows. Perhaps most importantly, he’s running the ball with much more success than I’d anticipated before the season, which has helped control the pass rush and energized his team.

It feels like a technicality to put Walden on this list, but technically the second-year starter saw his first varsity action in a 50-6 win Friday night as Lincoln Charter played its first varsity game. I was most impressed with his rushing ability, as he put up over 100 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. That feels significant for a guy who has already proven he has the arm talent to be a top recruit.

A last-minute addition to the rankings, Walden stood out at the Gardner Webb megacamp over the weekend. He ran a 4.63 40 at 6-foot-5, showing his athletic upside. Interestingly, he participated as a wide receiver instead of quarterback, the latter of which he plays at Lincoln Charter. I’m not exactly sure which position he’ll ultimately end up playing long-term, but the upside is intriguing enough to put him squarely on our radar.
