I went into the Class 2A semifinal game between Kuemper Catholic and Wilton wondering why Vonnahme wasn’t receiving more attention on the recruiting trail. His brother, DJ, was breaking through as a redshirt freshman tight end at Iowa, and Braxton was piling up numbers as a senior receiver. After watching him catch nine passes for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns, I’m even more baffled by the tardiness in schools getting after this kid. He’s every bit of the 6-2 at which he’s listed with long arms and strides that make him a tough cover. Vonnahme can get by defensive backs with his speed, too, and definitely shows another gear in the open field. He ran an advanced, crisp route on his first touchdown that gave the opponent little chance. Somebody will get a steal with this guy.

Vonnahme has proven to be a (really) big-play threat halfway through his senior campaign. In four games, he’s caught eight passes for 236 yards (29.5 YPC) and four touchdowns. Much of that production happened in a pivotal Week 4 win against OABCIG. Vonnahme hauled in four balls for 142 yards and two scores. He flashed upside last season with 26 receptions for 500 yards (19.2 YPC) and five TDs. Footage of Vonnahme is limited on his Hudl page. What we do see from a game earlier this year is a tall receiver with long limbs and a knack for high-pointing the ball. He looks to have some speed and athleticism as well, leaving open potential position versatility.
