Indianapolis, Edinboro and Butler have all extended offers to Fairmont offensive lineman Ben McIlvain. We were impressed with him at the GWOC Showcase last month and his hard work is paying off this summer. McIlvain is very good pass protection, mirrors rushers effectively, and plays with good bend, hand placement and strike timing. Has a strong, lean frame with thin ankles and time to develop in the weight room.

Benjamin McIlvain Benjamin McIlvain 6'3" | 256 lbs | OL/DL Kettering Fairmont | 2027 State OH , a Class of 2027 prospect from Kettering Fairmont, flashed potential in one-on-ones to mirror rushers off the edge and keep his feet in the ground. As a run blocker, he is very good, running his feet on contact and effectively driving defenders off the ball and working to the second level. I think his more natural fit at the college level will be at guard.

Mcllvain thrived in Fairmont’s run heavy offense. At 6’4 260 he has good size and length. He plays downhill and with good pad level. When he engages in his block the defender goes backwards. Ben possesses the athleticism and capability of lining up at both the left and right tackle positions. I had the chance to see Ben up close in our January showcase. For someone who hasn’t spent a lot of time in pass protection, Ben showed fluid athleticism in his pass pro and a strong ability to anchor. As of right now I could see Ben playing either guard or tackle at the next level. He’s very coachable and willing to do whatever it takes to help his team. As Mcllvain continues to get bigger and stronger, I expect him to continue to climb in our rankings.

Mcllvain is a sophomore at Fairmont high school. The Firebirds are a very run heavy offense. So, I was excited to get to see Ben in in pass protection. Mcllvain plays offensive guard. He easily held his own against some stout competition. Ben plays with good pad level and leverage as he anchors to take on power. He bends well and has plus athleticism for the interior offensive line positions.
