Ben Kauffman is a good defensive lineman for Penncrest. He has a great stance and fires off the ball. Kauffman uses his hands well to engage with offensive linemen and then rip through them. He does an excellent job in the run game by crowding the line and making tackles in the backfield. Kauffman also has a good combination of size and athleticism to play defensive tackle. He also shows a motor that never quits on the play. Kauffman is a talented 2025 defensive prospect.

Where does Kauffman fit long term is going to be the question that I think could be answered this weekend? Is he going to project better to being a defensive end at the next level or will the other side of the line of scrimmage be his calling? He’ll need to add more weight to play OL long term but his 6-foot-3 frame could allow him to fill in nicely as an interior offensive lineman or guard long term. How he tests will also play a factor in that determination long term.

Like many of the defensive lineman in attendance this young man was dominant particularly in the one on one drills. Really like this young man’s upside at 6’2 and 208 lbs. he is pain for any offensive lineman to block, just ask the group last Friday. He is relentless off the edge, you can see why he was named 2nd team all conference this past fall.

Good amount of league/conference accolades to his name. Penncrest’s Ben Kauffman’s build is an obvious translation to the defensive side of the football, I make this clear early in this piece as Penncrest often has Kauffman working along the offensive line, a choice that makes a ton of sense even if he didn’t play out of position out of necessity. First thing that stands out on tape is the young man’s pursuit skills and closing speed. Once Kauffman reads the handoff angle, once he sniffs the backfield and gets off his block, his closing speed to the ball carrier flashes. Kauffman works out of a three-down lineman set, often stationing anywhere between the tackles outside shoulder in a traditional DE alignment, or head-up on guards if PC calls to shift their front. A pressure/penetrator type. Doesn’t always come away with TFLs and sacks but his presence sure is felt. Likes to swat hands out of his way, powerful shoulders and forearms help him clear punches from OL. Carries a slim build, often a bit too much when working inside of bigger tackles. Bit of a tweener, not ready to name him a great rusher off the edge, but I like the fact he’s putting tape out there deployed at multiple alignments and positions, great for his stock with potential coaches at the next level.
