Already accumulating 23 tackles, four of them for loss, he has impeccable instincts around the line of scrimmage. At 6’3″ 210 lbs, he certainly has an imposing presence on the field. Barney’s athletic ability allows him to really excel in coverage as well as on offense. When the Toros get the ball, he’s been a driving force for their offense when handed the rock. He has five touchdowns through the team’s first two contests while averaging more than six yards a carry. Barney’s impact on both sides of the ball is a huge reason why Mountain View has gotten off to the start that they have.

Notching 13 tackles for loss while averaging over 13 tackles a game, he’s constantly in the backfield. His impressive mix of timing, speed, and strength proves to be too much for just about any offensive line to stop when he’s asked to blitz. In coverage, he’s able to move so fluidly across the field that he can cover an incredibly large zone, he also possesses the speed to stick with any receiver he lines up against. With his commitment wrapped up before the season begins, I’d expect Barney to play loose and free out there and really build off of an already stellar junior year.

At 6’3” 205 lbs. he’s a high-level athlete with great anticipation and range. Possesses all the tools to be a three down college level LB with his ability to be a solid interior and perimeter run stopper or drop back into coverage. He processes reads quickly to diagnose run/pass and then uses his reactionary quickness to break on the ball. Moves well both laterally and straight line speed, shows he can chase down ball carriers backside to the opposite field or in touchdown prevention.
