Carruthers lined up at defensive end where he was disruptive against the run. He showed the strength to fight through blocks and speed to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make tackles. Carruthers finished the game with four tackles. Archie currently holds offers from San Diego and William Jewell, and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at the next level.

Archie has been to camps all over the country and also holds an offer from William Jewell College. Expect more regional offers to come in before it comes time for Archie to commit.

Archie’s good football IQ shows quickly identifying halfback screens in his vicinity. Archie’s good closing speed, tackling ability, and fluid change of direction shows pursuing scrambling quarterbacks as an edge rusher. Range, strength, and good hand technique highlight Archie’s potential to be versatile run defender at the next level.

Archie had a strong junior season, finishing with 49 tackles and six sacks. He lines up at defensive end and plays with a very high motor. Carruthers is able to use his speed to blow by opposing offensive tackles as a pass rusher and is constantly fighting to get to the quarterback. Once he gets to the quarterback, he does a great job of finishing with a sack or at least putting a hit on the quarterback to make them make a difficult throw. He also has a nice amount of bend which he uses to shoot the inside gap and avoid blocks. Archie doesn’t currently hold any offers but has received some college interest and definitely has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.

On the defensive front for SLUH, junior defensive lineman Archie Carruthers Archie Carruthers 6'3" | 255 lbs | DL SLUH | 2024 State MO stood out to me the most. Carruthers was very disruptive as a pass rusher from the defensive tackle spot. He was able to use an explosive first step and strength to fight his way through blocks to get to the quarterback. Once he got to the quarterback, he did a great job of running his feet through contact to secure the sack. Against the run, he did a great job of reading the play and using his high motor to get to the ball to make tackles in the open field. Archie is also a very talented rugby player so it remains to be seen which sport he will try to play at the next level but he definitely has the talent to play football at the next level if he decides to pursue that route.
