Antwan McKoy
About Antwan
Expert Analysis
Will Helms | Prep Redzone Scout
McKoy is becoming more controlled and balanced as a defender, and his improvement as a run defender was noticeable this year, even in a season cut short by injury. He has freakish athleticism, with a nearly 7-foot wingspan, something that helped him earn some huge early offers. He’s now our top-ranked interior defender in the class and has the potential to move up even more with a strong senior season.

McKoy is only 6’3″, but has a massive wingspan and insane work rate that make him look closer to 6’6″ or so on the field. Though the sack numbers took a hit this season, he improved as a prospect in our eyes, as he consistently fought through double-teams and chased down ball-carriers. McKoy has one of the highest ceilings in the class.

McKoy burst onto the scene with several SEC offers in the spring, and the fall could give us a good indication on just how high his ceiling could be. McKoy somehow had one of the quieter 10-sack seasons you’ll ever see, even if he racked up 60 tackles in the process. Maybe that’s an effect of playing in an underrecruiting and under-recognized part of the state, but people should take notice of one of the best defensive tackles in the state.

is without question the top prospect in Robeson County—and by the end of this season, he could stake a claim as one of the top players in the entire state. At 6’0”+, 280+ pounds with a 7-foot wingspan, McCoy has always had elite physical tools, but this offseason he’s taken his game to another level. His combination of power, length, and explosiveness is rare—especially for someone his size. He has an elite first step and can overwhelm interior linemen or set the edge with ease. McCoy already holds offers from Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, and his recruiting stock is still rising. A true national-level talent.

Antwan is another player who went from unranked all the way to #38 overall in our rankings and the #4 defensive linemen, and he also blew up from a recruiting perspective in late March, with several Division 1 FBS offers coming his way. The physical profile is impressive – notably a 7-foot wingspan – but what Antwan put on film also helps his cause tremendously. The play that made me excited was where Antwan got an interception – a big feat for a defensive lineman, but he played it with excellent technique – Antwn felt he was being let up field by the offensive lineman, he retraced his steps perfectly, and plucked the attempted screen behind him out of the air. Awesome stuff. Antwan uses his long arms and hands with power to shed blocks and shows good speed to get to the quarterback. It’s a safe bet that you will see Antwan continue to rise in our rankings.
