It’s hard to watch the Panthers’ offense without noticing the big man at left guard. That’s No. 56, 2030 Smith Jr., and he’s a young lineman who immediately catches your eye. At 6’4 270 pounds he already physically looks the part. You don’t find many young offensive linemen with his feet and hands at that size. In the run game Smith moves extremely well both directionally and downhill. In space he can get downhill without getting out of control, playing with good pad level and balance. In pass pro he uses short choppy steps and good hands to mirror pass rushers. Smith Jr. is a great young offensive line prospect.

For the prospect from the Buckeye State, Andrae Smith Jr showed that he was one of the more advanced offensive linemen, specifically as it relates to his hand usage – showcasing them in a number of ways. Smith worked hard to get his hands above his eyes, continually striking upward upon his matchup. I also thought that Smith excelled at working his hands and feet simultaneously, especially when working to refit his hands. That said, Smith can stand to pick up the pace of his feet a bit more, as I saw him hold against a skinny-butt prospect who beat him with speed.

Andrae Smith Jr. – loved watching this kid work through individuals. Came all the way from Ohio and performed very well. 6’4″, 270 pounds. A candidate to be offered as an underclassman from MAC programs. Narrowly missed being named First Team All Camp after the event. Just wanted to see him win a few more reps. Carries a power forward-like build and athleticism combination. Wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he plays multiple sports or will in the future. Will likely rank well once our Ohio staff gets to the 2030 class. A tackle prospect far toward the athletic end of the offensive tackle spectrum.

Smith Jr. has the size, the ability, the strength and can move at his size. He is a fluid blocker and can do it big in the passing game and in the run game. I expect him to have a big showcase at the “RIZE” event in New Jersey!
