Smooth is the first thing that came to mind watching Amani on Friday. I was impressed with Amani’s physical stature and the ease that he got in and out of his breaks. His ability to high point the ball was on full display. I was also impressed with his ability to make tough catches in traffic and turn up field and get extra yards. Although his night was cut short with a minor foot injury you can see why he is considered one of the top pass catchers in the 2027 class.

Amani is becoming one of the worst kept secrets in West Michigan now. He’s an extremely smooth athlete who performed extremely well in an insanely tough conference. He has rep after rep against stout defense, and it comes up his way more often than not. He has solid size, but he’s extremely strong and impressively twitchy. He is able to fight through contact and rip the ball down against physical coverage. Beyond what he can do as a receiver, he has great vision and impressive patience that lets him be part of the run game on sweeps. Another underrated part of his game is downfield blocking. He does a great job of playing through the whistle and making plays downfield, even without the ball in his hand. He should be on everyone’s list going forward.

Amani possesses a few extremely valuable traits. Although he wasn’t quite a full-time Varsity player in 2024, I’m expecting him to have a nice full-time Varsity season this Fall.

The tape kicks off with a 20-yard catch near the left sideline. The DB actually had a solid jump on it, but the ball was too well-placed, and Amani did a great job high-pointing the ball with his hands before toe-tapping the sideline. The second highlight shows a punishing block, while the third highlight showcases a fade route. Plus, plays like 1:15 show solid IQ, and 1:50 demonstrates his potential as a kick returner.
