Very rarely do you find an out state linebacker with a frame like Lea, and it’s even rarer to find one with his unique combination of size, speed, and patience. Phenomenal when blitzing, Lea often finds himself in the backfield, wrapping up an unfortunate ball carrier for a TFL. While he can play high at times, he also fills and scrapes to gaps exceptionally well. A MIAC school would be well served to slide Lea and offer soon.

Alex was another small-town Southern Minnesota prospect out of Blooming Prairie that caught my eyes yesterday at the Minnesota camp. He showed off his explosion levels that are there with his broad jump and backed it up with a plethora of athletic movement when we got into the later session of the camp. That explosiveness he showed off from camp, certainly passes the eye test when you watch his tape at middle linebacker as Alex is the definition of a smash-mouth linebacker in the backfield. He also showed off agile hips with his change of direction from what I saw yesterday, as that too checks the box on tape when you watch him as a slot-back for the Awesome Blossoms. I wish I got to watch Alex in pass-coverage yesterday, but with what I saw this 2025 LB prospect certainly looks already like one that will be playing on Saturdays for sure.

Lea is a long, athletic linebacker. Only a sophomore, he has two years to put on some good weight to make him especially dangerous. He has a knack for popping the ball out of runners’ arms. He shows excellent anticipation from the linebacker position, often getting into the backfield before a lineman can fully engage him. Although he often comes clean through the line, he is disciplined enough to break down and make solid, form tackles. On offense, he plays in the backfield and is a duel threat – running and being a threat in the passing game.

Coming out of a stacked Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossom sophomore class, LB9 and #44 overall Alex Lea has seen a couple of his teammates receive some well-deserved recognition since we published the 2025 rankings update last week, and now his time has come! With noticeable length and room to fill in on his 6’1, 185 lb. frame, Lea did some good things as both a RB and LB, showing off a diverse skillset and a natural playmaking ability on either side of the ball. Standout closing speed and a great display of timing on his blitzes helped him lay some crushing hits on QBs and RBs last fall, and as a RB he showed solid speed, some exciting contact balance and YAC capability that helps him slip through tackle attempts, and an affinity for contact on either side of the ball. Also good hands out of the backfield to boot. Lea is fun to watch with an already strong skillset and more room to develop. Stay aware of the Awesome Blossoms these next couple of seasons.
