Expert Analysis
Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
Kotiranta flew under the recruiting radar throughout his career until he was able to land a well-deserved D1 PWO to Northern Arizona in January. Possesses a good all around skillset to be an impact player on both sides of the ball for San Clemente, played well at Safety as a junior but then exceled as a WR his senior year. Very natural and smooth operating out of the slot with high level route running and separation ability at the short/intermediate levels. Still carries the speed to be a downfield and after the catch threat but his strength is short area quickness and burst. He’s got a hard drive phase off the LOS and is creative in how separates showing a great ability to set up his routes. His breaks are well timed and he uses his change of direction to accelerate coming out. Quick release move at the LOS to avoid contact and get into his route. He’s got good body control and competes for the ball in the air to be strong at the catch point. Voted All-League, All-County, and All-CIF at WR for the 2024 season.

Kotiranta possesses a multi-dimensional skillset at 5’11” 175 lbs. A natural DB/WR prospect with savvy athleticism and strong ball skills. Could play either side of the ball at the college level but really flashed at safety as a junior at San Clemente. He’s got good speed giving him the range to cover all areas of the field effectively. High football IQ and instincts to anticipate where the ball is going and trigger into his break. Strong in coverage, he shows a good ability to recognize routes as the play is developing to step into throwing lanes and make a play on the ball. Comes downhill hard in run support initiating contact while breaking down in space to be a reliable 1on1 open field tackler. He takes good angles of pursuit to the ball and uses his short area acceleration to close space in a hurry. He’s a dual sport athlete (football/track) and voted First Team All-League DB in 2023. Should see a bump in recruiting as the cycle progresses.
