, one of New Jersey’s premier running backs, displayed his entire skill set in Somerville’s semifinal showdown against Mainland. He showcased his elusiveness and vision, bursting through holes and making defenders miss. Mitchell combined shifty moves with physicality in the open field, delivering several punishing runs. As the game progressed, he only got stronger. In the fourth quarter, Mitchell became the focal point of Somerville’s offense, leading their comeback effort and briefly giving them the lead. His versatility shone as he transitioned to a receiving threat, making plays out of the backfield and on the outside. The Wake Forest commit demonstrated why he’s poised to be a game-changer at the next level.

, calls Somerville home just as much as he calls the endzone his home. A back that has been used differently across two different seasons, his elite, second and third gear speeds make him a star in any scheme deployed. This speed is mixed with vision and patience that allows him to rip off big gainers. Also used in the passing game in both the slot and on screens, Mitchell can turn the hips of defenders in pass coverage in circles. Also a return man, we see him bust off spin moves by getting low. Mitchell’s strong legs allow him to break poor tackles and keep balance along the sideline.

‘s high school career tells a story of a versatile back that has etched out big roles despite regime changes. As a sophomore Mitchell was used as a traditional back that primarily focused on rushing. Junior year enter new head coach Matt Bloom, an offensive line coach by trade. You figure, more of the same, right? Nope. As a junior under Bloom Mitchell was featured more of a scat/third down back in a pass-heavy air raid type offense. Either result, the results were excellent. Mitchell is threatening due to his outstanding cutback vision and dangerous due to his second and third gears that he has available at his disposal. Using said speed to his advantage, he manipulates and changes speeds well, particularly as he patiently waits on stretch plays before hitting the hole. Furthermore, he is willing to completely cutback against the grain. An electric threat when in the slot, he can turn targets in an out. Elusive as well, Mitchell can hit the spin move on stationary tackles. His strong legs allow him to break the first man’s tackle. Mitchell is committed to Wake Forest.

blew me away from start to finish.
Getting a look at him through Indis I could tell via build and body language that this was a kid to keep an eye on. Indis usually provide kid’s with positional tips from college coaches, yet I saw Mitchell navigate drills with ease, all the while being coachable and attentive to detail. Nothing was too big for this kid, yet he took every rep seriously despite being the alpha of the group. Won every rep during 1v1s, you can see the twitch/burst in his lower body off the snap, he used it to draw the attention of LBs early. Fantastic reader of leverage on the fly, Mitchell consistently lost his matchup while separating after the stemming his routes. Seasoned, 1v1s were a breeze. Despite his muscular, toned-out build, Mitchell flashed hands and separation skills during 1v1s. He would have been a tough cover for the DBs in attendance too. One of the best backs I’ve had the pleasure of covering, that’s including my PA events. Mitchell currently holds an offer out of Boston College, watch his FBS offers count up in time.

, was an absolute stud at running back yesterday. Mitchell possesses the ability to make cuts that I would describe as “violent.” He made it a priority to protect the ball upon when a defender zeroed in on him. His ability to make sharp cuts as a rusher also allowed him to create space when running routes with sharp breaks such as Texas routes and out-and-ups. He has the speed to create separation from defenders on longer wheel routes. He is a bit smaller is stature, however, this is advantageous to him because it allows him to run with lower pad level.

An opposing coach I spoke with during the season described Mitchell in one word: legit. Only a sophomore, Mitchell is a back who finds creases, slices, and can gash defenses for big gains in the Pioneers’ spread offense. In 2022 as a freshman on varsity Mitchell slashed 112/725/7 on the ground. With a new head coach at the helm, Mitchell went for 91/513/10 on the ground. However, despite the drop in numbers I would not consider this a regression, as Mitchell hauled in 38 receptions for 354 yards and 2 touchdowns in a pass-first offense. This allowed him to open up his game a bit more, showcasing his skills as a rusher, pass catcher, and – colleges will love this – pass protector.
