This Grand Valley State commit did everything I wanted to see him do to take the next step at the center position. He is faster and stronger than he was last season and is showing all of the qualities that you like to see. He is extremely aggressive, can get out to the 2nd level and absolutely dominate. It’s not too often you see a center this well versed, strong and agile, but Carson is a special one! His mid-season tape shows all of the reasons why he is going to a great program at the next level.

Carson is one of the most dominant interior linemen in Michigan, and I’m confident he’ll be able to contribute a ton at GVSU.
Check out Carson’s tape. Watch as, time after time, he dominates the line of scrimmage. Although most of Spring Lake’s scheme is pretty straightforward when it comes to run blocking, Carson has found extreme success. He does an incredible job at using his leverage to his advantage and putting all of his strength into every single block. Carson can also block at the second level plus I know he’s worked on his pass sets this offseason.
GVSU’s current starting center, Kyler Blake-Jones, is another “undersized” offensive lineman. Yes, 6’2″ is small on paper, but I know that GVSU wouldn’t have offered Carson if they didn’t 100% believe in him to produce.

It’s very difficult to stand out as a sub-6’4″ offensive lineman. Carson cuts through the noise and has been able to become a solid GLIAC prospect.
I love Carson’s potential as a D2 center. Currently, he displays a powerful first step and MOVES people on the O-Line. Right after he snaps the ball, Carson is able to use his leverage to eliminate defenders from the play. He’s got a powerful first step, moves pretty well, and even has a few highlights blocking at the second-level. That said, his tape is a little one-dimensional, and the fact that I haven’t seen him in person hurts his ranking a tad. Still, Carson earns a giant boost and he’s quickly turned into one of the best Center prospects in Michigan.

Carson has the size and ability to really be a force this fall with the right work this offseason. He’s not one of those guys that’s going to play sloppy the longer into a game you go. He has put in the work to be a 4 quarter mauler. He shows the most ability as a road grader from the center position. Spring Lake runs and throws so he has experience being able to run block and pass block and pick up blitzers. I hope to see him continue to work on speed and blasting out of his stance, but so far I think Carson will have no issues being at least a D2 offensive lineman, but I would not be shocked to see some D1 attention if he takes a big step this fall!
