IL is home to tons of next level prospects. So it was easy to decide to write up another part of my film review series. Scouting is all about identifying what an athlete can do. The 6' 220 lbs DL may be playing out of position currently. Because of his blend of athleticism and strength, I believe that Justin could succeed at LB. He runs a high 4.7s 40 yard dash, and that range stands out even in his DL tape. Justin is able to chase down the ball carrier and wreck havoc all over the backfield. His play strength is also impressive. Many of his early highlights show him simply running right through block attempts on his way to the ball. That type of strength would also be key in the second level where he would need to shed blocks to make tackles. Lastly, Justin's first step out of his stance is explosive. He is able to quickly get his hands onto his man or shoot through gaps. We will start with his play on defense. Tyler is an aggressive CB who can press his receiver hard at the line, and then has the speed to be able to turn and run with them. He is just as aggressive at the catch point. Tyler has the explosiveness to be able to go up and attack the ball at the high point to break up passes. When he plays off coverage or in zone, Curtis does a good job of reading, and diagnosing plays then flying downhill to make the tackle. I'm a fan of him at CB.rnrnOn offense, Tyler does an impressive job running through arm tackles for his size. His balance through contact and lower body strength make it hard to get him off balance without wrapping him up or gang tackling him. He has the speed to take it the distance, and his agility allows him to pick through the trenches as he hunts for green grass. I am very excited for the potential here. Luke is currently 6'2u0022 185 lbs, but that hasn't stopped him from dominating off the edge at DE/OLB. He finished 2022 with 19 sacks. I can't wait to see how he continues to grow and fill out his frame. The tape is already exciting. Luke has a strong, explosive first step that puts pressure on the OT to get deep in his pass pro. Nelson also has developed impressive body control, bend, and flexibility. The way he can dip under OTs or bend the edge is only going to be more effective as he gets bigger. Add in the range to chase down across the formation and we have a very exciting, breakout sophomore. In today's article I want to focus on his best fit, DB. I was very impressed by Sharp's awareness, intelligence, and recognition while in zone coverage. He reads route combos well, and sees to know when a new man is entering his space. Despite his small stature, Isaiah also isn't afraid to tackle out in space. His range is a bonus too. Sharp can cover ground in zone or run with his receiver in man coverage. [player_tooltip player_id='801996' first='Sean' last='McGann'] from Brother Rice is showing signs of the instincts needed to be an impact LB at the varsity level eventually. He has growing to do, but Sean does a really good job of keeping himself a step ahead of the field. His ability to quickly read the flow of the OL or diagnose the play gives him a jump on getting to the right spot. His strength is at a decent spot right now based on the tape. Sean is able to run through block attempts. Lastly, McGann is an effective blitzer. He times it well, and has shown he can run through blocks of OL or RBs.
