Nelson impressed at multiple positions in his sophomore campaign for Stevenson. The 6’2, 195 lb Long Grove product was a wrecking ball last season. He showcased the raw ability and natural tools to become an elite edge rusher heading into his first varsity season. Nelson has phenomenal bend and a high motor that allows him to create pressure and chase down opposing quarterbacks. These skills allowed for Nelson to secure 19 sacks and 50 plus tackles on JV last year. Additionally, Nelson saw time at middle linebacker and tight end last year. As Nelson continues to grow and polish his technique, he should be a force for the Patriots in his junior season.

Stevenson High School LB/DE/TE/FB Luke Nelson Luke Nelson 6'1" | 210 lbs | DL/LB Stevenson | 2025 State IL played all over the field last fall with the Patriots and was extremely varsity in the non-varsity ranks. Good get-off, little bit of bend, long arms that make it easy to shed blocks once he locks out, and solid overall speed, I like Nelson as a DE first and foremost. However, he also has good reps as a LB and TE, and with a frame that could add a lot of good weight there are some exciting things going for the rising junior. Positional versatility doesn’t hurt either!

What a year for the sophomore out of Stevenson HS. I am very excited for the potential here. Luke is currently 6’2″ 185 lbs, but that hasn’t stopped him from dominating off the edge at DE/OLB. He finished 2022 with 19 sacks. I can’t wait to see how he continues to grow and fill out his frame. The tape is already exciting. Luke has a strong, explosive first step that puts pressure on the OT to get deep in his pass pro. Nelson also has developed impressive body control, bend, and flexibility. The way he can dip under OTs or bend the edge is only going to be more effective as he gets bigger.
