Which 2025 South Georgia defenders got to the quarterback the most last year? Let’s take a look…
Elijah Griffin Elijah Griffin 6'5" | 270 lbs | DL Savannah Christian | 2025 State GA – DT – Savannah Christian Prep
He may just be a sophomore, but make no mistake, Griffin is already one of the top overall defenders in Georgia and one of the very best across the country in the 2025 class. The Savannah native had easy D1 size already at 6-foot-4 270-pounds and is coming off a dominant sophomore season in 2022, getting to the quarterback 14.5 times and making it look easy. He was 3rd in sacks across the state for sophomores while adding 14 more QB hurries to his 2022 resume. He’s big and strong, but he’s also explosive off the snap and gets into the backfield in a hurry. Whether he’s lined up on the EDGE or inside, Griffin is fundamentally sounds, shows quick violent hands, and has a great motor when chasing down the ball carrier. He moves well for his size and has some quickness for someone 270+ pounds. He certainly looks the part from a physical standpoint and already holds offers from some of the top college football programs in the country. An easy 5-star candidate, Griffin is currently thee No. 5 ranked player in Georgia who could move up that list in the next update. Along with his 14.5 sacks, Griffin also made 82 total tackles and recorded 30 TFLs.
Logan Brooking – Savannah Christian
Another nasty, physical lineman out of Savannah Christian who loves to get after the quarterback, plays a lot like his father, former Atlanta Falcon linebacker Keith Brooking, and will no doubt play at the D1 level down the road. Just a sophomore last season, Brooking looks the part physically for his age at 6-foot-4 215-pounds and has been dominated opposing linemen all season long. He’s quick off the ball, sheds blocks with ease, and lived in the backfield last season. Aa natural pass-rusher, the South Georgia defender made 12 sacks last year and could have an even bigger season in 2023. His 12 sacks ranked 4th across the state for sophomores last year. A two-way player who made an impact on both sides of the ball last year, he was one of the top defenders in the area last year and really impressed for someone in their second season. In addition to his 12 sacks, Brooking made 66 tackles and made lots of plays in the backfield, making 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He’s a young EDGE defender who is starting to see some D1 interest and offers come his way after a great sophomore season.
Third Scroggins – Benedictine
Helping lead Benedictine to their second-consecutive state championship, Scroggins was a standout defender for the Cadets who harassed quarterbacks all season long in 2022 as a sophomore. A long, athletic outside linebacker, Scroggins was a reliable run defender but is at his best when attacking the quarterback in the backfield. A smart, physical defender with some versatility, Scroggins was one of the more dependable pass-rushers in the Savannah area last year, getting to the quarterback an impressive 10.5 times last year. When he wasn’t flying after the quarterback, he was a tackling machine against the run, ending his sophomore campaign with 93 total tackles, leading a defense that gave up 20+ points just twice all of last season. He also made 16.5 TFLs last year, making it difficult for opposing offenses to get anything going on the ground. He also forced four fumbles last year, proving to bee a true game-changer defensively. He’s bound for a monster junior season for the Cadets in 2023, and eventually, he should see some D1 offers come his way down the road.
