We want to put into perspective just how talented the quarterback position is for the class of 2025 in South Carolina.
In our final Class of 2023 rankings, we included 248 overall players. Of those, 25 were quarterbacks, or 10.1 percent of the listings. In 2024 (updated last week) we had 17 at the position out of 151 total players (10.8 percent).
In 2025, 11 of the 73 players are quarterbacks. That’s 15.1 percent, or roughly a 50-percent increase over the older two classes.
Now, considering what we know about the position as a whole, a slight uptick wouldn’t be a big surprise. After all, top-shelf quarterbacks are frequently identified earlier by scouts – both of the college recruiter types and folks like us. But we’re also not immune to the fact that neither entity can fit all 11 players into one neat box.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
What we’re seeing is a diverse skill set, from arm strength to quick thinkers to signal callers with wheels to some who are putting whatever they have to use in any way possible.
THE TABLE SETTERS
The “game manager” tag often gets applied to quarterbacks who are part of run-first squads. But we prefer our label, as what they do well often accentuates all those carries. In the meantime, we’ve seen tangible growth from all three of these players and a huge 2023 could be on deck.
Take Parker Murray Parker Murray 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB River Bluff | 2025 State SC of River Bluff, for instance. In 11 games last fall, he threw for 1,176 yards and 14 touchdowns (on 105 completions). More importantly, he only had three picks in 171 pass attempts and didn’t fumble once in 25 carries. River Bluff isn’t the team it was without exactly what Murray brought to the offense.
Down at Bamburg-Ehrhardt, we’re starting to see another quarterback getting more and more comfortable. Chanston Crosby Chanston Crosby 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Bamberg-Ehrhardt | 2025 State SC threw for 1,490 yards and 12 touchdowns (against just three picks) and also showed he could scramble with the best of them when he needed to. In just 15 carries, he went for 205 yards and another two touchdowns. This was a team with more than 2,300 rushing yards total, and most of his favorite weapons will be back in 2023, as well.
The storyline on Jaden Cummings Jaden Cummings 5'11" | 195 lbs | QB Summerville | 2025 State SC (6-foot, 185 pounds) is now changing, as he’s transferred from Hanahan to nearby Summerville to finish out the second half of his prep career. But given the number of athletes that he’s about to surround himself with, we think his skill set will transfer, too. After all, Cummings is a tough-nosed grinder who completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,231 yards and eight touchdowns while also rushing for 285 yards and five more scores for a run-first Hawks squad last fall.
THE GUN SLINGERS
Not every offense is built like the following five. And, there’s a reason for it.
Each quarterback in this group not only attempted at least 242 pass attempts in 2022, they also completed at least 61 percent of those attempts. Let’s address them in order of just how many times they threw it, shall we?
White Knoll’s Landon Sharpe Landon Sharpe 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB White Knoll | 2025 State SC attempted those 242 passes. He completed 155 of them (64.0 percent) for 2,208 yards and 25 touchdowns. He did have 13 interceptions, but that’s still a low figure for a sophomore in Class 5A football.
Next up was Chester’s Trooper Floyd Trooper Floyd 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Chester | 2025 State SC , a 6-foot-2, 180-pounder who ripped off a 150-of-245 clip (61.2 percent) for 2,011 yards and 19 touchdowns. His six picks came at an average of one every 40 attempts. Floyd is one of those players who isn’t quite getting the recognition he’s earned because of his location. But trust us, it’s coming.
Cutter Woods Cutter Woods 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Westside | 2025 State SC had a good freshman year at Eastside. He was flat-out dynamic as a sophomore at Westside. This fall, Woods completed 68.2 percent of his passes (180-of-264) for 3,014 yards and 28 touchdowns against just five picks. Tack on 232 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and we’re seeing a huge potential for blowing up on the recruiting scene.
As far as pass attempts go, the next two guys are up in the exosphere, relatively speaking.
Chapin’s Brady Albro Brady Albro 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Chapin | 2025 State SC , in his first year as the starter, threw the ball 311 times in 10 games. He completed 63.3 percent of those for 2,055 yards and 14 touchdowns. Short throws? Mostly, of course, but after Chapin’s offense lost its previous quarterback to a transfer, it was one heck of a start.
And that brings us to Finley Polk Finley Polk 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Northwestern | 2025 State SC . We’ll preface his 320 pass attempts by stating that Northwestern made it to the Class 4A state championship game. But, it also did in large part because all those throws went for 3,304 yards and 37 touchdowns. He got the ball in his playmakers’ hands at a completion rate of 67.2 percent. Polk hasn’t met a throw he doesn’t like to make.
THE DUAL THREATS
Three of our 2025 signal callers have shown off the ability for their coordinators to go either-or with their abilities. Electric? You bet.
We start with Kaegan Chambers Kaegan Chambers 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Chesterfield | 2025 NC (pictured) at Chesterfield. While his completion percentage dipped below the midway point, it was evident that his arm strength will only lead to increased productivity. After all, he threw for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for another 758 yards (while averaging 13.3 yards per carrie) and six scores.
Irmo’s AJ Brand AJ Brand 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Irmo | 2025 State SC may be among the most physically defined player in the class, as the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is strong enough to break tackles both in the backfield and on the run. It’s why in the regular season alone he passed for 1,549 yards, rushed for another 540 and combined for 25 touchdowns.
And there’s clearly a reason we have Will Wilson Will Wilson 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Richland Northeast | 2025 State SC of Richland Northeast as the No. 2 overall player in the class. The recent offers from the likes of Arkansas, Duke and Penn State followed a sophomore season in which he threw for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns and another 705 rushing yards and 14 scores on the ground. Right now, he’s the most complete package, no matter how stiff his competition already was and is continuing to get.
