Franey led the Blue Devils to a 67-34 victory over Southeast Warren in a meeting of unbeaten teams, as Martensdale-St. Mary’s improved to 4-0.
All Franey did was complete 13 of 20 passes for 227 yards with seven passing touchdowns. He also added two scores on the ground for a nine-TD night.
The Blue Devils were clicking on all cylinders, scoring 21 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second and finishing things off with 25 in the third. Franey and the starters played just three quarters on the night with the win well in hand.
Franey has plenty of targets to work with on the field including senior classmates Carson Elbert and Troy Holt. Elbert had six receptions for 129 yards and three scores, with Holt adding five catches for 59 and three TDs. Junior Hogan Franey also caught a touchdown.
And it wasn’t just an offense-only night for Franey, as he also led the defense with 13 tackles including 12 solo stops, four for loss and a sack.
On the season, Franey is completing 63 percent of his passes for 924 yards with a 19-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has 131 yards rushing and seven scores wth 25 tackles including eight for loss and two sacks.
Much like he does on the football field, Franey does it all for Martensdale-St. Mary’s. He’s also a standout on the baseball field and a golfer. He helped the team reach the Class 1A state tournament this past summer, hitting .368 with 25 RBI and 12 steals.
