This week’s premier quarterfinals matchup pits two of the highest-scoring offenses in the state against each other (51.5 per game for Westfield; 46.5 for Duncanville). At this stage of the playoffs, we are going to be treated to shows by two incredible quarterbacks in every game, and this one is no exception. Westfield is led by uncommitted senior PJ Hatter and Duncanville is led by standout sophomore Keelon Russell. Heading into this one, revenge is surely on the mind of Westfield head coach Matt Meekins and their seniors, since Duncanville ended their season in 2020, by the score of 56-0.
The best part about this game, from a recruiting standpoint, is all of the uncommitted seniors that will be on the field. We’ve talked about some of Westfield’s standouts in a recent article. Today, we take a look at some uncommitted seniors at Duncanville.
CB James Adams – 6’1″ 180 / @oneGoalJames
Senior Stats (so far): 23 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble
Adams is absolutely worthy of a Division 1 opportunity. He looks the part, is smooth throughout his backpedal and transition, and consistently delivers big hits in the open field. Where he really shines, however, is with his ball skills. Very rarely will you see a wideout catch a ball cleanly when he’s matched up with Adams on an island. Needs to get a bit stronger, but has the upside and ability to develop into a Group of 5 corner.
MLB Vernon Grant – 5’10” 205 / @Driplike_VG3
A bit undersized for a middle ‘backer, Grant is one of the more exciting defensive players to watch in the DFW metroplex. He fills gaps with a fearlessness, has above-average sideline to sideline speed, and is a sure tackler in the open field. As a blitzer versus the pass, he is truly stellar. Fires out of his stance and gets into the backfield in a hurry.
Currently has offers from Toledo and Northwestern State.
RB Kaleb Kenney – 6’1″ 200 /@d1kKenney
Aside from being a leader and knowing how to win, Kenney is a prototypical-sized back who excels at catching the ball out of the backfield and picking up yards after contact. He’s a excellent one-cut runner who gets downhill between the tackles and has the upside to develop into a Group of Five prospect if he opts to go the junior college route. Priority number one for him has to be his burst. An elite running back prospect clocks in with a 10-yard split of 1.56 or below. Once he gets to this point, Kenney can become a perennial 1,200 yard rusher at the next level.
Currently has a Division 2 offer from Missouri Southern.
