One of just a handful of unbeaten teams left standing in Class A, the Gaels travel to Britt to take on defending state champion West Hancock.
“It is a great opportunity to play them,” St. Edmond senior Parker Oswald said. “It’s the game we’ve been waiting for since Week 1. This game will be perfect for our team because it is going to show us what type of team we are.”
The Gaels enter off three consecutive wins, including a 53-27 triumph over North Union last Friday night. Oswald had his breakout game, catching six passes for 142 yards including a touchdown.
He also hauled in a pair of key third-down receptions from classmate Drew Schaeffer in the fourth to help seal the win, highlighted by a long touchdown.
“The feeling from catching those third-down passes was a great one,” Oswald said. “Those are the type of plays that you have to make all game in order to be successful as a team.
“I’m happy that Coach (Matt) Dillon and Drew had the trust in me to go make those plays. I trust Coach Dillon to make good calls, I trust Drew to put the ball where it needs to be, and I have to trust myself to find the ball and secure the catch.”
Oswald has had little trouble doing that over the past two seasons. He currently has 10 receptions for 246 yards and a score, averaging almost 25 yards per catch. As a junior, he recorded 23 catches for 278 yards and a pair of scores.
However, through the first two games of the season, he was held to just four catches.
“It felt great to have a good game last week,” Oswald said. “I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to have one and when that opportunity came, I was ready.”
The 6-foot Oswald also ranks among the team leaders with 14.5 tackles including 11 solo stops. His four tackles for loss lead St. Edmond and he is tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
