We are rounding out the regular season and moving into the heat of 2022 playoff football action as of now in Mississippi. There are a few brackets with match-ups between opponents that could shape the way champions are crowned in each class. From 6A, I will highlight which games stand out to me as potential games that will decide the fate of the entire playoff bracket. Games selected are expected to be all out brawls in the North or South half, depending on the match-up's classification and region. I choose these games based on both teams' overall records, prospects' talent levels, and probability of the two teams involved advancing on to win a title.

Both Warren Central and Gulfport are teams that could win out and gain an opportunity to play for a title this year. The Vikings and the Admirals are merely evenly successful, sitting at 9 wins upon entering playoff contention. Each team has only amassed losses to potential title contenders. Warren Central is coming off of a 5-0 run to end district play after their tough loss to Brandon earlier in the year. The Vikings have righted the ship since then, and their guys are playing motivated football for the last half of the season. Warren Central is a team stocked with several potential collegiate players, but Gulfport has no shortage of talent either. Gulfport has prospective student athletes to their disposal as well. Their only two losses on the season come by way of Picayune early on in the season and against Ocean Springs. Offensively and Defensively, both of these programs are pretty evenly matched. I'm excited to see which players are able to take the upper hand in their own individual match ups and make an impact on the game. This game will be won by whomever makes the most plays, and the least amount of mistakes.

The most impact full players in this game are listed below, but there are a few of these player's listed that must and will perform to the standards that they've set week in and week out throughout the season. Both teams' Quarterbacks' are dual sport Seniors that have made names for themselves on the football field and on the baseball diamond. Jacob Palazzo (Gulfport) and Jack Wright (Warren Central) are both Pro-style quarterbacks that excel in taking what the defenses give them, making the correct reads/throws, and taking care of the football. Though they have similarities, they both get the job done in different ways, while dispersing the ball to the bevy of talent that they have on hand.

For Warren Central, Trey Hall, and [player_tooltip player_id='910481' first='Zack' last='Evans'] have been consistent contributors all year, but the Vikings will need a solid game from running backs Darius Carter and Eric Collins to control the pace of the game. They will also look to get an eventful game for [player_tooltip player_id='106320' first='Royveon' last='Qualls'] to get the job done. Gulfport will need a big game out of their Gavin Brown, Tavaris Henshaw, and Emmanuel Bentley for sure. However, their defense is where they can turn this game on its head. The Admirals need one of their better performances of the year from All-Star selection David Lewis, [player_tooltip player_id='344140' first='Damon' last='Felder'] , and that Admiral Defense. I'm excited to see which of these two teams play-maker's step up and get it done!

Starkville (8-3) at Southaven (10-0)

The Starkville Yellowjackets have been favored as a contender for the 6A title since this summer, and they have lived up to that hype this year. They have a talented group of guys on that team; a team that features a few big name prospects like [player_tooltip player_id='273258' first='Trey' last='Petty'], [player_tooltip player_id='139597' first='Braylon' last='Burnside'], and EJ Thomas. This seems to be a time prime and poised to make a run at things based off of the regualar season they've had and their tools in the shed. They have 3 losses, but two of them were only by 7 points a piece and the other was a game where they simply wet the bed. To make a long story short, Starkville is a team that has been battle tested this year, and they weathered the storm. However, their opponents are looking like a group clandestinely set out for a title this year, and they are playing like it as well. That team is the 10-0 Southaven Chargers.

The Chargers out of Southaven have been rolling this season on their way to their momentarily perfect record. Though their schedule has not been the toughest by 6A standards in Mississippi, I was more impressed by how dominant this team has looked in a full scope of the season. They are able to put up points seemingly at will, while having one of the most stingy defenses in the state. The Chargers have only allowed 91 points on the season, and only 3 of their games played have they allowed opponents to score in the double digits. This combination of scoring and defense could prove to be valuable for Southaven as they look to get a little payback. Starkville is the team that beat the Chargers in last year's playoffs, ultimately ending their season.

Those Juniors on Southaven's squad surely remember the taste in their mouth from that loss last year. They will be playing like it is their last game because for most of those then Juniors and now Seniors, it very well could be. This game will be a game between two evenly matched programs that are in two different places , looking for the same result. A win! I'm interested to see how Starkville's offense handles Southaven's physical nature on defense. [player_tooltip player_id='107045' first='John' last='Slaughter'], [player_tooltip player_id='340771' first='Ian' last='Jeffries'], and Dewayne Graham are all seniors that head that defensive group for Southaven. I'm eager to see how they plan to stifle Starkville's high octane offense. The Chargers will have their hands full for sure. [player_tooltip player_id='139597' first='Braylon' last='Burnside'], [player_tooltip player_id='340821' first='Jaylon' last='York'], &
[player_tooltip player_id='273258' first='Trey' last='Petty'] will all be on 10 for this game as they are for any other. Another match-up I'm looking forward to seeing play out is between two studs in the trenches, DT [player_tooltip player_id='340771' first='Ian' last='Jeffries'] & LT Christopher Hayes. This game will be low scoring, and whomever can prevent the most big plays will secure the W.
