Multiple Prospects See Their Recruitment Explode After Week One
High school football is finally here. The state of Georgia is a hot-bed for future college football talent, and there were plenty of players across the peach state who had “life-changing” types of games, leading to new D1 offers. Here are a few prospects who really stood out and made a name for themselves after week one of the football season.
Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA – Tight End – West Forsyth
The big 6-foot-4 210-pound wide receiver/tight end had a big offseason on the camp circuit this summer and that translated to the field last Wednesday night against Mays. Delp always had the size and athleticism, but just needed a little film out there for schools to look over. It only took one game for the offers to start rolling in after Delp’s two touchdown performance in a 42-6 win. His 46-yard touchdown in particular was impressive, taking a short curl route the distance after braking multiple tackles and showing off his speed down the sideline for the last 20 yards. Delp also excelled in the run game, opening up big holes for senior running back Daba Fofana the entire night. The Michigan Wolverines have been close to offering for months now, and they pulled the trigger on an offer the following day. Virginia Tech also extended an offer, and more are likely on the way.
DeNylon Morrissette – Wide Receiver – Brookwood
No prospect in Georgia had a bigger opening weekend than the junior wide-out from Brookwood. Morrissette started the scoring off with an impressive 77-yard touchdown, taking a short slant the distance after blowing by defenders. He has great size and already looks like a D1 receiver at 6-foot-2 180-pounds, but his speed and reliable hands stood out the most. He’s a good athlete who knows how to get open and make a play on the ball. He still needs to work on creating more separation, but right now he doesn’t have a problem making a tough catch over the defender. He was trouble for the Dacula defense all night, recording 12 receptions for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. Morrissette has since earned offers from Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and Minnesota.
Brayden Mauldin – Quarterback – Paulding County
The offers might not be there just yet, but they could come soon for the 2022 gunslinger after a three-touchdown performance against North Hall to start the season. Mauldin has decent size at 6-foot-3 180-pounds and showed off a big arm as well. He showed great touch on his deep passes, connecting on multiple long passes down the field. He was accurate on short throws, but the touch he put on his deeper throws were very impressive. He throws a nice, catchable ball and make just about every correct read throughout the game. He wasn’t perfect, but he looked like a QB who could play at the next level. His third touchdown may have been his most impressive, rolling to his right, throwing off his foot, and throwing an absolute strike to the end-zone while he got lit up by a defender. He showed toughness and leadership to go along with his impressive arm. If he continues to play like he did in the opener, he’ll see his recruitment start to pick up sooner than later.
