The opening drive for the Corsairs of Carmel Catholic was a very balanced one that saw the Corsairs pushing down the field utilizing the throwing strengths of their quarterback, Johnathon Weber; and the rest of their drive was when Sophomore running back Donovan Dey Donovan Dey 5’11” | 185 lbs | ATH Carmel Catholic | 2025 State IL began to shine. Donovan was a vital player on the first drive assisting his offense with getting the opening drive touchdown. As the rain started to fall harder, the Corsairs abandoned the pass and went run-heavy, where Donovan would continue to shine as he got the ball more. Donovan showed to be the kind of back that you can play on every down; a back who will stretch the field on early downs and get vertical up the field, and then a back who will lower his shoulder and keep his legs pounding through contact on the 3rd and short situations. This drive to get every inch of extra yardage in all situations is why Donovan is on The Yak Report and why I believe Donovan will continually progress into an unstoppable back as his career moves on.

John’s game makes it very evident rather quickly why this young man will play at the FBS level next year for the Iowa Hawkeyes. John was flying around the field all night, making plays all over, even taking part in a momentum-changing safety, which then led to the punt being returned for a touchdown in the first half. The Hawkeyes have a versatile player in John Nestor John Nestor 6’1″ | 185 lbs | DB Marist | 2023 State IL , who will go to any position and play it well with vigor. John embodied the “play until the whistle is blown” kind of effort on the field Friday night, shown in the way that he could run from sideline to sideline to attack the ball carriers and make a tackle. This young man will undoubtedly be an excellent addition for the Hawkeyes next season.

Kristan Coleman
Kristan Coleman
The entire offensive line played an excellent game for the Corsairs Friday night, but I really had to spotlight the game that Kristan played due to the fact that he had a formidable opponent in front of him for a good portion of the night in Redhawk’s defensive lineman, Jamel Howard Jamel Howard 6’3″ | 310 lbs | DL Marist | 2023 State IL , and Kristan answered the call. Kristan was able to win a majority of these battles, and it had me impressed. Kristan is a big man at the guard position for Carmel Catholic, but he is nimble on his feet and excellent at ripping down the line when he pulls and demolishes the first defender he sees. This young man is a pancake machine and always looks to strike that intimidation into opposing defenders. Kristan plays a big part in a stout offensive front, keen on opening gaping holes in the middle of the line for their backs.
Chris Lofgren
Chris Lofgren
Chris Lofgren was a beast out there Friday, taking a load of carries in the rain to advance his offense down the field. Chris is the kind of back who brings the hurt to opposing defenses and will lower his shoulder into an opposing player’s chest to cause this hurt. Chris is the bronco that won’t quit bucking, and this was apparent in a game with inclement weather where the Redhawks were forced to go run heavy. Chris was part of a 1-2 punch for the Redhawk backfield, with Marc Coy being the other side. Chris was causing havoc in the Redzone all night for the Corsairs because of his stout running style, and he was the gift that kept on giving for the Redhawks every time they fed him the ball.
