We have reached the official start of the season with Week 1 games in the book. But as they say, the show must go on and we will finish out our previews as we have done in recent weeks.
With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Carter Schulte - Waterloo West
Waterloo West moved the ball well last year under Carter Maske. Now, it is Carter Schulte’s turn to direct the offense.
Schulte saw time as a junior, throwing for 109 yards. He surpassed that number in Week 1 this season, completing 13 of 22 for 176 yards with three scores.
Along with success in the air, Schulte also carried the ball five times for 29 yards with two touchdowns. He showed that athletic ability last year catching three passes for Waterloo West while also making a handful of tackles.
Tay Norman - Waterloo West
Four receivers had over 100 yards for Waterloo West a season ago, but just one is back. Class of 2021 prospect Tay Norman hauled in 16 passes for 252 yards with five touchdowns.
Norman formed a strong connection with new quarterback Carter Schulte in Week 1 over Waterloo East, catching seven balls for 118 yards and finding the end zone twice.

Last year, [player_tooltip player_id="23819" first="Tyler" last="Moore"] was a consistent and reliable target for Johnston in the passing game.
Moore, a Class of 2021 prospect, caught 20 passes for 307 yards with four touchdowns, averaging over 15 yards per catch. He started his senior season strong, hauling in seven passes for 108 yards and a score with Class of 2022 quarterback prospect [player_tooltip player_id="23998" first="Jack" last="Rutz"].
Bricen White - Linn-Mar
Almost 80 percent of Linn-Mar’s rushing attack last year came courtesy of Class of 2021 prospect Bricen White.
White carried the ball 165 times for 790 yards, scoring six touchdowns. He also caught 28 passes for 169 yards with another score, averaging 18 yards on kickoff returns.
In the season-opener for the Lions, White had 51 yards rushing on 11 carries and 25 yards receiving on four receptions.
Alexander Linquist - Waukee
Waukee ran for over 3,200 yards a year ago, and nearly 1,000 of those returns in the form of Alexander Linquist.
While Linquist, a Class of 2021 player, didn’t quite hit the milestone, he did finish with 822 yards and seven touchdowns, adding another 179 yards on 13 catches with a score in the passing game.
Linquist is well on his way to another big season this year, racking up 32 carries for 149 yards in Week 1. He also caught a pair of passes for 12 yards for the Warriors.
