Michael Huntley | Prep Redzone Scout
Hughes will be a three-year starter for an Aliso Niguel team that ran the ball well the past two seasons.
His pad level improved greatly on film this season compared to his sophomore season. He could improve his foot speed, but when he does drive his feet through contact, he gets a good push and has the strength to bully defenders.

Hughes was one of the best interior offensive linemen at the camp. His pad level is much better in this setting than it is on film and he’s aware of that hole in his game.
He looked less stiff on Sunday than he did when I saw him in January and his footwork is improving. He hand fights pretty well and recovers quickly when he loses leverage.
If he can keep his pad level down and keep improving his mobility, he can be a big force for Aliso’s offensive line next season.

Hughes competed in the Stock Up Showcase after having an All-League sophomore season.
His size stands out and he looks more fluid with his movements in person than he does on film. He’s a solid pass blocker and I look forward to seeing him against fresh competition on Sunday.

Hughes looked good at the center position, particularly in pass protection. His pad level was better in person than it is on film and he did well against power and speed moves. There was a drill where the players start on a knee and then block down, and Hughes was out of the knee quickly and under control. Hughes was one of the better sophomores at the event and is improving steadily.

Hughes earned All-League honors as a sophomore and started at center for Aliso Niguel this season. He has good football instincts and knows when to stay on the double team and when to bounce to the next level.
One thing I’d like to see him work on is his pad level. He runs a bit high in pass protection and when bouncing to the second level and a strong linebacker may be able to take advantage of that. But Hughes is young and one of the most promising class of 2025 offensive linemen in the county.
