By the start of game week, most teams will have two scrimmages under their belts to better prepare for their season openers.
This article will briefly examine five junior players who stood out during their first round of scrimmages, solidifying them as players to keep an eye on during the high school season.
Jackson Quammie
Jackson Quammie
Quammie was an instant standout during a three-team scrimmage that Brighton hosted yesterday. He is a top-tier rugby player who brings elite skills and techniques to the gridiron as an outside linebacker and wide receiver. His playing style is based upon a high motor and dominant physicality. Quammie popped up on the radar during the competition against Standley Lake and Rocky Mountain, displaying talents that put him in the sleeper category as a potential prospect.
Noah Donovan
Noah Donovan
Donovan is another new addition to the radar who put on an impressive showing at free safety during Saturday’s scrimmage. His ability to read and react to the run game reassures the Gators that members of the secondary will fly downhill and rally to the ball. As a coverage player, Donovan does a great job at moving his feet and not getting caught flat-footed when covering deep.
Abraham Chatila
Abraham Chatila
Chatila is a three-down back with explosive running abilities and excellent power. The 5-foot-9 190lbs back is tough to bring down because of his low pad level and his determination to keep his legs moving through contact. Running behind that Lobos line should provide Chatila with the opportunity to have a breakout season as a rusher.
Gaddis is perhaps one of the more known players on this list who was able to showcase his talents during a scrimmage against Resurrection Christian on Friday. He is a solid inside linebacker who does an excellent job plugging gaps and helping to force the run outside, but he stood out as a ball carrier during the scrimmage. His power as a runner is a testament to his strength and ability to keep his pads low when running. Gaddis will be a player to watch this fall, especially in the season opener against a talented Broomfield team.
Highlights
Rodgers showed that he will be a reliable running back for the Raptors this season during Thursday’s scrimmage against Niwot. He provides his offensive with solid change-of-pace skills, helping to pick up short to medium yardage to keep the offense in control. His vision gives him the ability to break runs for large gains once he makes it to the second level. Rogers will be a player to watch this season as he steps into a more prominent role with the Raptors.
