MN 2022’s Had a Big Week of Offers…
I cannot stress the importance of attending collegiate prospect camps for high school football recruits. Having coaches see you and your skill-set in person doing football specific workouts is an invaluable tool that can lead to an overlooked recruit getting the chance he needs to ball out on the big stage on a collegiate football field while bettering their life by getting a college degree. A lot of the time an in-person workout can lead directly to an offer right then and there, and that one offer can usually lead to a whole lot more. With the affects of COVID-19 being felt throughout the country in both the public sphere and the world of athletics, there was definitely a high chance that these camps were not going to happen in any capacity this offseason, and with it the chance for a lot of college football hopefuls to show their talent wouldn’t happen as well. Luckily, various college football teams around the Midwest adjusted on the fly and found a way to put on safe and well-run camps where Minnesota prospects can show their stuff with the chance to earn a scholarship offer. At some of these camps Minnesota athlete’s in the class of 2022 balled out and earned their very FIRST scholarship offer, and <em>PrepRedzoneMN </em>thought it was imperative to give these stud’s some exposure for their hard work and the offers they earned they past week. Well we’re at it we are going to breakdown their film and get to know these rising juniors a little more, as this definitely won’t be the last we hear from them. <strong>Nicholas Ojile </strong><em>(Spring Lake Park)</em> 6’2, 210 lbs. DE/ATH. @NicholasOjile Earned an offer from UMD. <strong>Ojile </strong>has two older brothers who signed with UMD out of high school in 2017, and his brother <strong>Zach </strong>has since been honored with All-NSIC awards in 2018 and 2019. <strong>Nicholas </strong>is a big kid who already is over 200 lbs., and after his camp up in Duluth the Bulldogs smartly got ahead of the game and were the first team to officially offer a scholarship to the future <em>Spring Lake Park </em>graduate. As only a sophomore <strong>Nicholas </strong>started as a DE on the <em>Panthers </em>football team and also started on the basketball squad, and he shows a tremendous amount of athleticism and savviness for an underclassman. He’s a smart and technically sound DE who understands his assignment and does a good job not trying to do too much on the field, something we see a lot of in younger players on varsity. He’s also very strong for his age, and against a lot of strong OT’s in 2019 he was very hard to physically move, much less block. He shows good technique and the ability to sift through blockers in the run game, and as a pass-rusher he has strong hands that he works well inside and also displays some good bend around the outside. There’s a lot to like in his game, and due to the fact that both his brothers are gigantic I think <strong>Nicholas </strong>is far from being done growing. <strong>Logan Banse </strong><em>(Caledonia) </em>6’3, 220 lbs. DE. @loganbanse Earned an offer from Northern State. The <em>Caledonia </em>kids are not the biggest users of Twitter, so I got very excited when I learned of <strong>Banse </strong>and his NSIC offer from Northern State after his camp performance this past weekend. At 6’3, 220 lbs. he’s already got D1 size as a sophomore, and his frame is long and still lean with a ton of room to still grow. He’s a fast and relentless pass-rusher who covers a ton of ground each step, and does a great job of identifying the play and locating the ball fast. Although he still needs to add some strength, he still has a good initial pop and is an aggressive tackler who is putting you in the ground once he gets ahold of you. I also like his versatility, as he lined up everywhere on the field for the 2019 2A state champions last fall - including the 1tech, 3tech, 5tech, and sometimes it looks like he’s even from the wide-9. He’s got an incredibly high ceiling as a prospect, and I think it’s safe to say we have found the second coming of <strong>Zeke Ott, </strong>especially since stud teammate <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="18110" first="Casey" last="Schultz"] </strong>only has one year left of prep ball. <strong>Carter Loesch </strong><em>(Sauk Rapids-Rice) </em>6’4, 210 lbs. OLB/DE . @carter_loesch Earned an offer from Minnesota State-Mankato. <strong>Loesch </strong>was another prospect that unfortunately fell under my radar prior to his performance at the MSU-Mankato camp that earned him an offer. Although his sophomore year highlights aren’t the longest, it is very very very easy to see that <strong>Loesch </strong>has some rare and impressive closing speed. He gets on you fast, and reads and identifies the play well and is a patient defender that forces the ballcarrier to make decisions faster than they are comfortable with. This especially comes in handy with option and read-option offenses, and <strong>Loesch </strong>also has a great frame with a ton of room to get bigger and stronger. <strong>Tommy Niggeling </strong><em>(Lakeville North) </em>5’11, 190 lbs. LB/ATH. @NiggelingTommy Earned an offer from Minnesota State-Mankato. On the first play of <strong>Niggeling’s </strong>sophomore tape I got a major flashback to <strong>Carter Coughlin’s </strong>sophomore tape. I’m not saying <strong>Niggeling </strong>is the second coming of the 4star <em>Eden Prairie </em>LB, but watching a #45 come around the edge with some serious speed to hit a big varsity sack gave me some real nostalgia. For most of the season in 2019 however, <strong>Niggeling </strong>played on the <em>Lakeville North </em>JV squad, and he was a FORCE. Everything you want in a LB is there, as he’s fast, physical, and absolutely makes you feel him when he puts the pads on you. He also has some natural pass-rushing ability, and although he was basically too fast to get blocked last year on JV I really like how he executes blitzing assignments and finds the holes in the OL to get in the backfield. <strong>Spencer Alvarez </strong><em>(Columbia Heights) </em>6’7, 235 lbs. TE/DE/ATH. @Spencer10Alv Earned a MSU-Mankato offer. Also plays on the nationally renowned Howard Pulley EYBL team. <strong>Alvarez </strong>is the total package as a TE and should be getting national attention on the gridiron pretty soon here, as there aren’t a lot of 6’7 kids that move as well laterally as <strong>Alvarez</strong>, especially as a sophomore. He’s a force in the pass game - obviously - as his 6’7 frame makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenders and the fact that he can make the first man miss makes him dangerous in the short game as well. Not only that, <strong>Alvarez </strong>shows more than a willingness to block and puts kids into the ground with ease on his sophomore tape. He is also a force as a DE, and a lot of the times it looks like the opposing OTs don’t even want to try and block him. He’s also very strong for his age, and has the potential to be the best <em>Columbia Heights </em>player possibly ever. I haven’t stated this in any article previous to this, but I really think <strong>Alvarez </strong>has the potential to be one of the best TE’s in the entire nation before his prep career is done, and the Golden Gophers and other P5’s should start contacting him sooner rather than later. <strong>Hudson Artz </strong><em>(Fairmont) </em>6’1, 180 lbs. SS/OLB. @hudsonartz Earned a MSU-Mankato offer. Was also named by <em>PrepRedzone Illinois/Iowa/Ohio </em>scout Jacob Lemming as a 2022er to keep your eye on nationally. On the second play of <strong>Artz’s </strong>tape he absolutely knocks the socks off a kid, and this theme continues throughout his film. Additionally, he’s a total playmaker with great instincts and who is a natural tackler and defender. I just love the effort and style he brings to the game and he’s incredibly fun to watch. With speed, strength, fast-twitch reactionary skills and an absolute love for contact, he’s going to be one of the best defensive players in the entire 2022 class. <em>Fairmont </em>also has a history of putting out collegiate studs, so bigger school’s shouldn’t be worried about the "small-school" tag that sometimes makes FBS schools hesitant to offer.
